This popped up on Netflix and being a big fan of the books I started watching it, when I saw that MTV did the show I was like damn, but it's actually really well done and I am enjoying it. On episode 7 of 10 right now.

LINK

Didn't realize Crixus was in this.

are the books called Chronicles of Shannara? I only ask cause I thought it was called The Shannara Chronicles. eh...toMAYto toMAHto...

I thought it was pretty good as well. The Amberle character got a little bit too cheesy and annoying to me. Been a fan of Manu Bennett ever since Spartacus and I love me some Ivana Baquero as well. I'd give her some elf stones of my own ...age check, 22...so fair game haha.

I saw it was green lit for a season 2 which is good. Hopefully they can keep the audience entertained. It's part of a genre that can be easily be dismissed even from a network such as MTV.

I watched all the episodes available on Netflix. Didn't read books so I don't have any bias.

It isn't terrible, but so many better shows to prioritize watching over this one if you have to time budget. The dialogue can be goofy at times (e.g. using strangely timed real life colloquialisms). The plot moves relatively quickly.

Only real complaint is the poor acting of the guy that plays Wil. Unbearably bad at points.

If you have read the books there is some back history they talk about in the show that helps, but it's by no means needed. It's not going to make it on my list of great shows, but with so little offered in this genre I'll take what I can get.

True, the genre is very under represented, but if you're seeking something GOT-like, this is not it.

Its like an 11 year old girl version of Lord of the Rings.

This guy is so awful in everything. Will not watch because of him as the lead.

That's more of the mtv effect. They twist around decent source material like CW does.

I still enjoyed it but I'll have fun watching any fantasy series

Finished it last night, the CW reference is spot on, but I still enjoyed it, but like you I will watch anything in the fantasy realm.

I fell off after I think the third one but am going to pick it up this week. I liked it but the mtvness of it got a bit stale.

That's actually exactly what the original books were too. I recall the author was pretty forthright about that.

Terry Brooks has been accused of this pretty much since the books came out and I don't disagree with it, but they were different enough that I enjoyed them.

This can be said of any fantasy where a group needs to seek out an ancient artifact.

I loved the Shanara books when they came out although I stopped reading them before Brooks started churning them out like he was James Patterson.

I only read a couple after Elfstones, but I did read some of his other books like Magic Kingdom, The Black Unicorn, and Wizard at large. I was a big reader during high school and college it was they heyday of D&D, Forgotten Realms, Shanarra, and Dragonlance books.

I think I read the first series after the initial.

I met Brooks and he signed my copy of Magic Kingdom. A movie of Kingdom has been in developmental hell forever.

Probably more enjoyable than LOTR (*gasp!*), at least to a younger reader. And I think that was Brooks' goal.
