from the man who brought you BRAVEHEART and WE WERE SOLDIERS...

starring...
Diane Lane (Oscar Nominee)
John Malkovich (Oscar Nominee)
James Cromwell (Oscar Nominee)

"Secretariat" seems to feed into the popular "Blind Side" subgenre, an inspirational sports story based on real-life events involving a spitfire mom. "Secretariat" could do for Diane Lane what "The Blind Side" did for Sandra Bullock

intense trailer LINK

People were hating on it the other day, but this is an appreciation-anticipation thread for it. Who else is excited to see this?

I'm sure I'll see it eventually, but I wouldn't say I'm "excited" about seeing a movie about a horse.

Yea comparing it to The Blind Side isn't going to help its cause. I'm seeing it as another sappy, overracted Disney sports movie

Horseys! Yay!

I refuse to watch The Blind Side (I'm a straight, non-Christian adult).

I am foaming at the mouth for The Sekritairyat.

I didn't watch the inspirational horse story the first time when it was called Seabiscuit and I'm not going to watch it this time either.

Yet another un original idea from hollywood. Seabiscuit with a blindside twist. I despise movies like this.

I will see it in theaters for two reasons.

1. My wife wants to see it.
2. John Malkovich is in it.

If you want to see something awesome about Secretariat, go find its Triple Crown races on YouTube and watch them.

I was excited reading your post, because I thought you might actually go a whole thread without asking a question

Then I get to the end and see:

I think this movie will be good. Say what you want about Disney, they aren't going to be groundbreaking with this one but the production will still be very good.

The story of Secretariat is a great one. When my dad talks about horse racing, he makes it seem like anyone who was alive when Secretariat ran was fortunate to be able to witness a horse like that. Watching his races on youtube is awesome, but imagine watching it while it happened.

My grandmother, my great-grandmother, Uncle Richard (he's gay), a guy I used to work with when I managed a movie theatre who swears he's not gay but loves showtunes and Barbara Streisand.

Just to name a few.

Yes it is. The average heart on a racehorse weighs 9 pounds. After Secretariat died and they did the autopsy his heart weighed 22 pounds. It's a record that has yet to even come close to being broken.

Wasnt just any horse. A true American hero at the time. You just had to be there I guess. I am pumped for this movie.

Had to be there:

Even when they try to make Diane Lane look older and more homely, she's still smoking hot.

And, before you go see this movie, you've got to read " Pure Heart," a short story by William Nack. It's one of the best sports stories ever written and will make you a huge Secretariat fan.

quote:

His body was trucked immediately to Lexington, Ky., where Dr. Thomas Swerczek, a professor of veterinary science at the University of Kentucky, performed the necropsy.

All of the horse's vital organs were normal in size except for the heart. "We were all shocked," Swerczek said. "I've seen and done thousands of autopsies on horses, and nothing I'd ever seen compared to it. The heart of the average horse weighs about nine pounds. This was almost twice the average size, and a third larger than any equine heart I'd ever seen. And it wasn't pathologically enlarged. All the chambers and the valves were normal. It was just larger. I think it told us why he was able to do what he did."
