here's a fun little 25 facts you might not know list about the movie

LINK

and here is a sample

quote:

13. After "Romancing," Zemeckis was slated to direct the sci-fi/fantasy "Cocoon," but when its producers saw a rough cut of "Romancing," they were so sure it would flop that they fired him from the project and hired Ron Howard instead.

14. Of course, "Romancing" proved to be an enormous hit. Its success and Zemeckis's suddenly free schedule allowed him to direct a longtime dream project about a time-traveling teenager, a film that would also become a huge hit: "Back to the Future."

That Kathleen Turner certainly did not age well over the years, though.

Cut her some slack she's suffered from really bad rheumatoid arthritis since the 90s.

I stumbled across it this weekend, first time i had seen it in a long time. Good, entertaining film, part of, I'm not sure comeback is the right word, but the start of a nice run for Micheal Douglas in the 80's.

Sure you aren't confusing him with his father? I don't believe Michael had been acting very long when this came out so I don't see how it could be a comeback.

Romancing the Stone was Michael Douglas's first big hit as the main actor. Most of his other early hits were him as a producer. I guess his other early hit as an actor was The China Syndrome, but Jack Lemon was the bigger star in that film.

Love that movie its so underrated. You know he and Burt Lancaster made like 5 or 6 movies together. This was their last one. Gunfight at the O.K. Corral is probably my favorite of the ones they did together.

Well, i not only saw Romancing the Stone in the theater when it came out, but The Star Chamber which he stared in the year before, so yes, I know the difference between Michael and Kirk

He starred in the TV show the Streets of San Fransicso in the 70's and did a couple of other movies, so yeah, maybe it was more his first hit as the lead star, like i said, comeback didn't seem like hte right word, but breakout didn't occur to me either since we knew who he was.

ETA:When Jack is negotiating with Joan to take her to a phone he asks for $400, she counters with $375 in Travlers Checks? He says AmEx? Of course. Deal. that was kind of a joke on his Streets of SF co star Karl Malden who was a pitchman for American Express around that time.

Douglas & Turner had such great chemistry. Jewel was even a good follow-up & War of the Roses (also w/Devito) might be my favorite of all their co-starring roles.
