Wow, that would mean he was 66? when the final MASH aired. Which was one of the greatest things ever on TV IMO.

He was at the heart of many a good episode. In his first episode he was Dr. Milton Friedman.

Which I strongly disagree with. Potter and Winchester are infinitely better than Burns and Blake.

Blake and Burns are way better. Frank Burns is one of the best characters ever IMO.

The guy did a good job with that character. I think they used the character just enough. Too much of that would have gotten old pretty quickly but they spaced it out well.

without trying to derail the thread, watching those two buffoons play a Major and a LTC in the Army, much less doctors, was cringe worthy.

Back to Sidney, I'll never forget the scene when he pulled that repressed memory from Hawkeye. Amazing TV.

You do realize that MASH was supposed to be a comedy right?

Yes, which I thought was funnier with two characters who weren't imbeciles...Potter and Winchester.

While Harry Morgan was a good actor, it sometimes seemed like they really didn't know what to do with the Potter character a whole lot. All the Mash characters were pretty one dimensional but it seemed to grow stale with his more than the others.

The big exception for me was the tontine episode with the bottle of wine he and a group of his friends from WWI had saved for the last survivor to drink. I thought that was a well done episode.

Of course, Henry Blake was kind of the standard sitcom goofy neighbor/goofy boss character. But it worked well for the short time he was on the show.

I do agree that Winchester was a much more well rounded character than Burns. Winchester could hold his own with Hawkeye and BJ. Burns was over the top which worked as a foil in the particular time that the series was started but I think it may have been just as well that the actor left when he did.

Exactly. Frank was a punching bag. At least Winchester fought back.

Was a great show with all the characters.

I first remember the show with Potter and Winchester so it holds a special place to me with that era.
