i like the prequels a little more than most. Not that I think they are great or anything but i don't totally hate them. Revenge is decent enough. Definitely the best of those 3. Attack of the Clones is the only one of the 3 that is truly terrible.

I always liked Order 66, but Lord Bitch killed all the younglings

either way it doesn't make sense. Shouldn't the emperor strive for middle of the road apprentice? Bad arse vader is a threat. Whiny pussy vader is useless.

His master specifically created Anakin and the Sith were constantly violating the rule of two. As soon as you became the apprentice you tried overthrowing your master when you became the master you constantly looked for new apprentices.
And since this is a relevant star wars thread instead of bumping others how do you guys think Luke's jedi order will be in 7,8,9? You think he will like in the books allow attachment/possessive love? After all that is what brought Anakin back.

doesn't that make anakin dangerous. plus with all of the prophecy talk, wouldn't killing him be your top priority

exactly, so why would you go get a bad arse motherfricking #2... the most powerful jedi/sith/force master whatever in the entire UNIVERSE. You can't have a useless one either. Furthermore, the more secret apprentices and shite that you have, your survival probabilities go down, since everyone is trying to kill everyone. How many people does palpatine, vader for that matter too, want to be looking over his shoulder for?
quote:
As soon as you became the apprentice you tried overthrowing your master
so immediately after killing his master, palpatine should think to himself, "I probably shouldn't get an apprentice who is more powerful than me."
quote:
when you became the master you constantly looked for new apprentices.
OK, but not ones capable of destroying you, or ones who are particularly prophesized to do so.

This is rare..but I agree with you.

Emperor brought in Anakin not for is skill with a lightsaber but for his force power and his son. Luke was just as strong, if not stronger than Vader and with really only about a month of training and two years of honing skills. Check out Dark Empire. Don't know if they went novel with it but it is part of the expanded universe and is in comic form.

That gets into the whole idea that the dark side clouds your judgement.

so the emperor wanted luke years before he was even born?
See the #1 problem with all of this is that this all sounds like fricking garbage...not science fiction.
Anyway, we're talking about the movie, everything I need to know needs to be in the movie.

The opening sequence of ROTS is the best ever in a star wars movie hands down.
Ummmm....no. Nope, nope, nope.
The opening sequence of New Hope may be the best of any movie ever.

Yes. It was in a holocron.

Sorry, Dark Empire was personally approved by Lucas.

The whole Plagueius making life thing from ROTS means Palpatine created Anakin.

Well it's his universe so...
That's like saying "this happened in Spider-man"
"no it didn't"
"yeah, it did, Stan Lee said so."
"We'll Stan Lee can frick himself because it didn't happen."

I'm just saying what sucks about the movie. I'm sure the book is good because lucas didn't write it.
This isn't explained in the movie, and even if it was...it's fricking dumb. Palpatine doesn't need vader to rule the universe. He certainly doesn't need luke
He should've killed vader, he'd still taken over the universe and there'd be no luke, vader or anybody to fricking stop him. he would've blown up yavin and ruled with an iron fist.
Now that I think about it, the emperor is pretty stoopid. If you get rid of that rule of 2 betrayl crap, palpatine certainly wouldn't have hurt himself by adding vader (also dismiss the prophecy bullshite) but it should've been worth his while...like he "NEEDED" Vader to conquer the universe. He doesn't need vader and he goes so far out of his way to get him even though it is perfectly well known to him that he, and his offspring (return of the jedi anyone?) were a huge fricking threat
He didn't even consider turning luke to the darkside until vader brought up the idea. He wanted him dead...like he should've wanted vader if you give the prequels any credibility.

Well the thing is it's the way it happened.
Who knows, EVII could end up tying up some of those plot holes.
I mean I guess another way to look at it is, as a Jedi you're not suppose to be emotionally attached to material things, including people. You can have compassion and love for all things good, but emotions are something you're suppose to let go of. That's something that Anakin failed to do during his training to become one of the most powerful Jedi. Which is kinda hard when one of your "friends" is secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith, and is constantly whispering BS in your ear. The Emperor used Anakin's fear of loss to turn him into Vader. To "wimp" that was Anakin is probably more due to Christensen's performance than what was really suppose to be. I mean Anakin did slice off Dooku's head with two lightsabers on the command from the Emperor.

yeah but the Jedi philosophy showed its flaws/arrogance both with the rise of Palpatine/Vader and the forbidden nature of attachment.
That is something I want to see in Luke's Jedi Order more focus on Qui Gon's Living Force concept where you can't deny attachment because it is an essential part of life. And I want to see how it manifests in the differences in Luke order like allowing Jedi to marry (which he made up so he could nail Mara and on a practical note create more force sensitives)

quote:That's what is so fun about these threads. As bad as those movies are they can be endlessly dissected because of the countless plot holes and poor writing. I guess in a weird way that makes them pretty entertaining to watch. But as movies go...they are bad...just bad. I'm sure the extended universe was good, but now they're all beholden to these shitty movies.
Well the thing is it's the way it happened.

It will never happen, but the best route is to pretend that the prequels were never made. But that is what makes the prequels and their awfulness so interesting...they can never be undone
I don't know if we could have a more interesting discussion about a movie, the best movies ever made, then the ones that we have on 3 of the worst movies ever made. George Lucas is a fricking genius. He owns us all.
