Shouldn't we address him as Senator Fred Thompson?

I wish he'd have gotten the GOP nomination in 2008.

Slight sidetrack, but in Law & Order, did they ever explain how his character became the DA?

I'm sure those lefty prosecutors loved him.

What a real life bad arse. The guy was both a Hollywood actor and a US Senator. He reached the pinnacle of his profession in two wildly divergent fields. I didn't know he was sick, but rest in peace to a true original.

Awesome guy...the only thing worth a damn to come out of Vanderbilt.

Look at what all the guy did.

BA from Memphis State, J.D. from Vanderbilt

Assistant US Attorney (69-72)
Minority Counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee (73-74)
Special Counsel to Senate Foreign Relations Committee (80-81)
Exposed the "Cash for Clemency" scandal in Tennessee that brought down Governor Ray Blanton (1977)
US Senator (94-03)

The guy was the vacation replacement for Paul Harvey on the radio.

Acted in 40 movies, including No Way Out, Fat Man and Little Boy, The Hunt for Red October, Days of Thunder, Die Hard 2, Cape Fear, In the Line of Fire.

Was on Law & Order (multiple iterations) from 02-07 and other tv appearances...hell, the guy was on 3 episodes of Matlock.

RIP to a truly Renaissance Man.

His voice lives on in the AAG commercials. At least they had respect enough to drop his image, but still...
