Now that it is confirmed that he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, is there any chance that the two lovers married before the Battle of the Trident - thus making Jon Snow a legitimate heir to the Iron Throne?

Would Ser Arthur Dayne, the head of the Kingsguard, be guarding Jon's birthplace if he wasn't a legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen?

I think we'll probably see Bran finding out about the secret marriage next season. How Jon will handle that will be interesting

Yes, I'd say that's almost confirmed. It's the reason they were with Lyanna over Viserys, who should be the rightful king if Jon isn't legitimate.

To add to this, Rhaegar was married to Elia Martell, but I think there is precedence for polygamy with the Targaryans.

I think we get a pretty good dose of Rhaegar flashbacks at the first of next season. They have been stingy about revealing him in the books and the show, similar to Howland Reed.

That's the big question. Is he Targ or Blackfyre?

The Kingsguard protects the king's blood.

Most signs point to he went into the old polygamy tradition with Lyanna, after all she ditched Robert for the prince, he must have brought better game to the table.

But he was so well loved that the he honestly could say to the kingsguard, "She's carrying my kid, don't let anyone frick with mine," and they would do it. Because he was motherfricking Rhaegar.

No, Targ. If he's Rhaegar's son, he's Targaryen. He'd have to be born to a completely different bloodline that has nothing to do with Lyanna's abduction for this to be the case.

Even if he is legitimate who gets to be the heir. The daughter of the king since Dany is the daughter of the mad king. Or is it the son of the Prince who is Jon. I'd say right now Dany still has dibs.

Pretty sure females can only inherit if there aren't any legitimate males.

Jon would have a direct line and case to the throne if, IF, he is legitimized. And I don't think his name is probably Jon either as we will find out. I think the crypt at Winterfell holds many secrets and may be how Bran gets the message to Jon.

No, Jon is the rightful heir, not Dany. Dany is Jon's heir as of now.

This.

If Lyanna and Rhaegar married in secret, making Jon a legitimate member of House Targaryen, then he would have a much stronger claim to the throne then Dany. He is the sole male heir to the Crown Prince.
