Question about this season of Supernatural.

I thought this was suppose to be the final season. At the end of tonight's episode it said next week was the season finale and not series finale.

It got picked up for another season a couple of weeks ago.

I looked it up again and they actually renewed it on Jan 11.

Last night's episode was amazing. The last few have been really good. Should set up for a nice finale next week.

I watched as it come on through about season 6 I believe. I never realized it kept going for so long, I need to catch up.

Apparently dean killed death and "something" was released from its prison(the mark of cain is what kept it in check as a seal and that's gone)
Last few episodes have been very good imo. I need to watch the past season or 2(I stopped mostly after 7)

I saw what happened, there's just a lot of cliffhangers for next season. Mainly what is this darkness.
