Question about The Thing (1982). Possible spoilers just in case

I love this movie. I have it memorized and own it on dvd but I have a question that I can't seem to answer.
Possible spoilers: (and if you haven't seen this movie, you should watch it)
Shortly after the beginning, with the whole dog/thing part. Right before they torch it there's "something" that "grows" out of that dog-thing and breaks some boards in the ceiling and then goes up into the ceiling. Then they torch the monster.
What happened to that thing that went up in the ceiling? Did it get burned too? The ceiling was wooden, so maybe it burned up too?
Maybe they just left it open for the viewer to figure it out for themselves.

Haven't seen it in a while but I was under the impression they torched all that was infected in that room.

I had never seen the first 30 mins or so of this movie until a few days ago. I was wondering the same thing as well.

Its safe to conclude that they kill all of it, and it progresses from the guy the dog infects earlier. (Damn you ambiguous silhouette!)
It's one of the few things in the movie that you can hang your hat on.

That movie holds up pretty well IMO.
