Thomas Haden Church's character "Jack" is a wealthy actor marrying into a very wealthy family.

Paul Giamatti's character "Miles" is a teacher, struggling author, and not quite poor (he earns enough to indulge his hobby).

Why do they take Miles' shitty car to wine country? Surely Jack has a much nicer vehicle to carry lots of wine and two sets of golf clubs. When I go on a trip with a friend or friends, we usually take the nicer vehicle (which almost always excludes mine ).

And to the OPs question its because Jack is a ungrateful a-hole if you did not figure that out by the end.

Jack is an egotistical a-hole that takes advantage of his friend. He also likes to frick fat girls in the arse. Or maybe his car was in the shop? I'm not sure.

Yep, he's one of those, "Who better to f*ck than a brother" type guys.

wealthy marrying into a very wealthy family

Pretty common behavior by many of the wealthiest guys I knew in school. Haven't hung out with any of those types since I graduated college.

All the above. Ingrate horndog. And when he finally drove, it was into a tree, on purpose.

Miles is "throwing" the bachelor weekend. He's the ring leader, he drives, they take his car. I mean, it made sense

He is marrying into a wealthy family, yes, but I've never thought of Jack as wealthy. He is a guy forced to do voiceovers because his once promising acting career never took off. He talks later in the movie about how he is about to go into business with his father-in-law as well.

Seems to me to be a guy who spends all his money on foolish things, leaving his friends (like Miles) to pick up the pieces of his failings.

I just thought Miles was the host of the bachelor party getaway so he'd logically drive.
