If I've never seen the original, can I see this one and not be lost?

Honestly
I don't think you need to watch the original
The new ones probably won't stick to originality

You can see and understand the new one without seeing the first.

I saw the first one a day before seeing the new one.

IMO, you don’t have to see the first one to follow the story, but I would recommend it. You’ll be somewhat lost for a bit about everything that’s going on politics wise in the universe, but it explained it pretty well over the film.

Actually, you don't have to. The original gives a little more context into Deckard and Rachel, but it is not required. It very much brings you up to speed quickly on what the universe is about.

Read a brief synopsis on the first one and it'll help out a little, but jot necessary.

Yes. I have not seen the original and was able to follow the plot easily.

It will help a lot to watch Blade Runer: the Final Cut before you see 2049. But you can still really enjoy it and get mkst of it without having seen the original,

I just watched the first one and liked it. 1080p looked good. Going to watch the second one next week.
