First, guess how long it took to make this scene? Interesting how much trouble they go to in order to get it right. I knew Hitchcock was great, but it never dawned on me how many details they had to nail down. The part about the storyboard is especially interesting.
If you've never been an extra in a movie, it's really a great opportunity to see what goes into making a movie. It doesn't pay shite and the hours are long, but it's still a cool experience to be on that side of the camera and seeing all that goes into making it come to life. You can literally look over the camera man's shoulder.
FYI, when I was an extra, Jon Voight pulled me aside and asked me about restaurants in NOLA. We talked for about 5 minutes. He's a great guy.

My Dad, who is one of the toughest men I know, still cringes at the sight of blood because of this scene. First time he ever saw blood on screen and it just stuck with him for some reason.

Tried to, but Voight couldn't answer...had a mouthful of forearm already.

In the High Anxiety send-up of the shower scene, the stabber is played by director Barry Levinson.
(And Hitchcock enjoyed the scene, especially the newspaper ink circling the drain in place of blood.)

Seems weird since it's in B and W.

Such a great scene, Bates cleaning the mess up was great too. Of course, the best thing about it is this happens what, 30-40 minutes into the movie. Still shocks first time viewers today. Seeing this in theaters in 1960 must have been insane.
