I hear tons of great things about these movies, but I've seen none.

I'd like to watch them, but someone told me I need to watch the original first?

I'm just seeking opinions on what order to watch these in so that maybe I could see the newest one in theater.

Thanks!

The current ones are a prequel to the old ones. You don't need to see the old ones first but you should see Dawn before Rise.

You don't HAVE to watch Rise, but it will definitely make Dawn much better.

You don't have to watch any of the old ones.

You don't need to watch the old school one. Those might be hard to watch today even though I still love them.

You should watch Rise. No reason not to before seeing the new movie.

Watch Rise, then go see it. Do not watch any of the classic ones. DO NOT watch the Tim Burton reboot from 2001.

The old ones are all on amazon prime instant video. I watched all 5 a few months back. Everything about the newer ones is better though.

Anyone else think they got the names of these two movies backwards?

The first should have been Dawn, as it was the true beginning. 2nd movie should have been Rise, as the apes did just that- rise up.

Studio fail on this one.

The titles are interchangeable, IMO.

I loved Beneath The Planet of the Apes because it was so batshit crazy.

Rise was the first one? Guess I should pay more attention to the titles.

Gonna have to agree with this one. Especially the cathedral scene.

Yes and no. They are a prequel to the first two. They sort of replace the third and fourth.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is kind of a remake of Battle of the Planet of the Apes

Yea, that is what i thought.

The third and 4th ones always made me laugh because they were sequel prequels.

These movies stand on their own, IMO. There are some small nods to the classics, but they really created something new and special. The apes are so realistic.
