I'm looking at some previous oscar nominees for other categories and finding some real good ones. Anyone remember "Ulee's Gold" or "The Apostle?" Also, not a nominee, but remember Bulworth?

Good Night and Good Luck. Excellent movie. Haven't seen it since the theaters and is never on any premium channel.

i agree with 'inception' ... blockbuster movie that i don't think people will turn to like they do with 'shawshank' ... and i have no idea why people found the movie confusing ... it's a decent movie, but he could've just flown his kids over ...
did you really just compare inception to shawshank?

I remember The Apostle because it was filmed in Lafayette. This was before the tax incentives so that was a big deal back then.

i'm saying 'inception' is a once-acclaimed movie that will not have the staying power of 'shawshank' ... 'shawshank' was not a very successful movie at the box office when released ... think it was nominated for a few academy awards, tho ...

You can probably just start capitalizing the the first letter of the words in the movie title so you don't have to ' every movie title. I think we'll get it.

It's not a bad movie and worth a watch but it's just exactly what you expect going into it and nothing more. It's fun for what it is and entertaining but just not that great of a movie overall.

yeah im gonna give it a watch this summer

Crash might be the worst movie ever made.

Some good points in this thread. Crash, Inception and Beasts of the Southern Wild all are one I agree with, but obviously their "acclaim" is different.
Crash got misplaced Oscar noms and wins simply for its subject matter. It's not even good film, let alone award-worthy.
Inception was acclaimed by Nolan fanboys who love anything he does as well as by regular everyday Joe moviegoers who got to feel intellectual for a couple months. In the end, it's kind of a mess of a story and the acting isn't anything to behold.
Beats of the Southern Wild caught a lot of buzz from the indie crowd (and the Oscar voters who strive to stay young and hip) for its originality and the acting of its no-name cast. Overall though, it falls short on depth. Cool concept. Nicely stylized. But I have no desire to watch it again or give it any trophies.
A couple others I'll throw in the mix: Saving Private Ryan, Benjamin Button, The Departed

Everyone shits on Crash, but I enjoyed it. But this was because I never looked at the movie the way the makers intended. I laughed my arse off at every body being racist to each other.
