Honestly the people in this movie are so unbelievably stupid. I really wanted to like it a lot, but it was pretty average. Fassbender is amazing, though. So cool to see him act with himself playing two very different versions of essentially the same person.

Pretty average is being nice. The more I've been letting the movie soak in, the worse it becomes. I mean the xenomorph has like a 5 second aging period where it's born and now all the sudden it's full grown. Just so many stupid things in the movie.

I am in shock at how terrible this movie is. Someone tell Ridley to stop doing alien films please.

Dude have you not seen the original Alien? The xenomorph fully matures very fast. That's nothing new.

Oh please. Someone says this about every movie with CGI in it. The movie looked amazing.

I really enjoyed it.

Can we get a Timeline of this shite...

-So, engineers create humans with "virus" canister.

-Humans track down signals to an engineer "lab" Planet. We find multiple ships and bases with thousands of canisters of "virus."

-David steals canister and infects Shaw's boyfriend through his food.

-Space Cobra, also in chamber, turns one guy into a zombie.

-2000 yrs ago an incident took place in cannister room causing evacuation. Xenomorphs picture on the walls of chamber.

-Shaw's Boyfriend impregnated Shaw with monster baby.

-Sleeping Engineer Rips off David's head. Doesn't like humans.

-Monster Baby eats Engineer.

-Engineer "Alien" bursts out of engineers body.

-Shaw and David dock on Engineer home world, which only happens to be one city with primative/ancient type layout.

-David unleashes "virus" cannisters on mass crowd, killing everyone.

-David Lands ship in mountains, doesn't crash it, sends out distress signal. Ship presumebly should still fly and electronics work.

-David becomes a psycho and begins experimenting on any living thing around with the "virus" black goo.

-David designs parasite eggs from insects and other living things on planet.

-David infects Shaw and kills her with bad experiment.

-David finally creates "perfect" organism but needs a living host.

Danny McBride flies out of "communication block zone" and hears a message David made of Shaw singing John Denver.

-Covenant goes to homewrorld that is newly discovered and previously hidden from all scans and searches of the stars and planets... Makes sense.

-crew wanders into woods looking for distress call, finds engineer ship David landed in mountains.

-two expedition dudes step on "spores" David has presumably bio engineered and planted everywhere.

-two expedition dudes produce semi-xenomorph just by spore contact.

-David lures every living survivor into massacre sight and his lab. No pays any attention to the literally hundreds of thousands of dead bodies.

-David shows Billy Crudup his "perfect" eggs. Crudup infected.

-Cgi "Alien" comes out of Crudup chest, supposedly first one ever even though engineers had sculptures/drawings of them in their 2000 year old chambers.

-Another face hugger infects another dude in literally 5 seconds.

-David and Walter fight, David defeats him, cuts off his hand, cuts his face and heals his nail wound and chases down ship in about 1 minute.

-Crew defeats Xenomorphs. David tricks everyone and claims he's Walter. Puts everyone to sleep as he takes control of ship and finds 2000+ hosts. Smuggled face hugger embryo and something else onto ship.

-3rd Alien prequel movie comes out.

-Crew of Nostromo land on planet after receiving distress call. Find an fossilized, ancient engineer with chest burst open.

-crew finds egg room full of hundreds of eggs. Infects John Hurt.

-John Hurt dies, Xenomorph born and kills everyone on Nostromo except Ripley.

-James Cameron takes over and makes best Alien movie ever with Space Marines and Alien Queen and all.

-Ridley Scott openly dislikes some of Cameron's takes, probably out of bitterness. Rips off Cameron in Alien Covenant with Daniel's entire look. Haircut, t-shirt, everything.

-Alien 3 happens.

-Alien Resurrection happens.

End of series.

Just saw it. Enjoyed it. I like how they tried making sense of a lot of unanswered questions in Prometheus. David's crib was terrifying. Sure there's the predictable characters making boneheaded but that's a given in this type of movie.

Question: where they planning on bringing Shaw back or did Rapace not want to join anything after Prometheus? Little confused.

umm...like what?

David explained the pathogen, an explanation that wasn't really needed....anything other than that?

They completely dismissed the engineers. Went through all of the trouble to design the city and docking ship thing (which were both awesome) then just use it as an elaborate backdrop for the mindless alien gore? What the frick...

Sadly.

I didnt care for Prometheus, but at least it swung for the fences.

Theres not a single scene in covenant that is as thrilling as the abortion scene in prometheus.

The last 20 mins in covenant with the xenomorph is so rushed and poorly executed. Such a bummer since the movie is already pretty slow and full of dull reveals.

Kinda like prometheus, the more interesting aspects are never fully explored.

I kinda felt the same way about this as I did Prometheus. Some things I really liked, some things I didn't. I didn't care for the way they handled Shaw and the Engineers. This movie had the opportunity to be great but just didn't hit the mark. All in all I'd give it a 6.5/10. Maybe they should just leave the Alien franchise alone for twenty years since they keep posing all these questions and rarely deliver satisfying answers.

Im all for more Alien movies, but youre right in that they need to stop demystifing the franchise.

Scott to needs to let go and let some fresh blood take a stab at it. They had the right idea in finding interesting directors to helm sequels (to varying degrees of success, i admit). And i also dont care to see whatever Alien 5 was gonna be about. Leave ripley and that storyline alone.

Just use the Alien as a boogyman and give us some compelling characters to follow and root for (or against). The mythology isnt the main point of what made Alien such a cool concept.

This movie was certainly nowhere near perfect, but some of these reviews are insanely harsh. Not sure what expectations people are taking into this movie, but it appears to be some ridiculously high ones.

It's a suspense/horror film w/ a bit of backstory. People are looking for far too much storytelling (including myself, but you just have to take it for what it is).

It's a movie that belongs to a series that started out with possibly the greatest sci-fi/horror film and the greatest sci-fi/action film of all time. After seeing some of the crap sequels that followed, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this movie. Some folks expect these sequels to be on par with the originals. That's a pretty tough task.

People don't care that the quality isn't as good as the first two. What they don't like seeing is bad stuff and these two movies have a lot of bad stuff in them
