Just got out of the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. The action scenes were pretty awesome and these aliens are some vicious beasts. We get more information to the lore and backstory of the alien creatures, and even Danny McBride did a solid job.

Nice twist at the end that everyone saw coming and I look forward to the next installment. If you're a fan of Aliens or SciFi, I recommend seeing it.

Just got out. Enjoyed it. Lots more action than Prometheus (which is a film I enjoyed).

Honestly didn't see David being bad in this one, probably not a smart preconception by me though. Still can't believe he killed Shaw or changed clothes or cut his arm off in two minutes to make the ship.

Still so much i want to know about the engineers.

A little predictable and feel like it's missing 30 minutes of footage but it's good.

Does anyone know why David killed the Engineers? It wasn't explained really. It seemed like an excuse to sweep as much of Prometheus under the rug in one swoop. Overall I really liked it, the only negative is I wish they would have used practical effects for the Xenomorph.

I think he didn't feel that the engineers were worthy to live. Just like he felt humans didn't deserve to restart

I also wished they had used practical effects on the aliens.

One thing I really didnt understand was how david created the xenomorph eggs. I get he used engineers for most of the experimentation. I thought maybe the alien from Shaw would have been a queen but they never went any further after the reveal.

Thought it was good, not great.

I wanted to like it more, but ehhhhh

The plot was extremely predictable, and the trailer kinda gave away the "David done killed all the Engineers" part.

Parsed out from my review in the spoiler-free thread: I really, really miss the animatronics and actor-donned Xenos from the first two (and even used in Alien 3 and Resurrection). It just looks so much more organic and "real" than the CGI-heavy Xenos we got in Covenant. The CGI overall was amazing in the movie (IMO it was really cool how they showed the Xeno easily contort its body to descend the stair chute near the end), I just wish they would mix in some live action shots of the Xenos, because it makes you fear it much more than seeing some digital beast running around.

All said, I enjoyed Covenant. It wasn't great per se, but there was a lot of really cool new story elements and mythos mixed in throughout, the action was great as usual, acting solid and the ending was a nice touch (yes albeit predictable).

Like the OP said, I'm looking forward to the next one.

P.S. Someone told me there is an Alien 5 in the works too by director Neill Blomkamp? That'd be badass if so, mainly because I can't get enough of these movies...

It was enjoyable, but incredibly predictable.

I actually wish they had included the prologue scene in the movie, it helped flesh out the characters and hopes of the group. Danny McBride did a really good job. I figured he was there to add some levity, but I'm glad they didn't try to make him Kenny Powers in Alien.

The crew managed to choose the worst idea at every single turn again. Wish the plot didn't require every character to basically go against every logical decision to put them in harms way.

I liked how they tied in Shaw to the story and didn't just leave us wondering what had happened to her. Though as distrusting as she was of David in the last movie, would have thought she'd have been more weary of him than to let him take control and kill her. The "twist" at the end was hard not to see coming 20 minutes ahead of time. I did like the reveal scene of it though.

It was a fun movie, and fits in with the series, but it's not in the same category as the first two.

I didn't like the CGI xeno's. The other two protomorphs or deacons, whichever they were were done far better imo. I felt like I was watching transformers in the scene during the rescue. A lot of fast shots at a moving CGI alien just gave me a headache trying to keep up. I wish they would have had scenes with the xeno like they had with the protomorphs.

One of the things i just didn't get was how the xenomorph eggs were created. David meantions the "first eggs" during his stages of creation. But i just don't get how he created organic eggs similar to the eggs we've seen in the alien franchise. I thought that maybe he used Shaw, but it seems the creatures from her and all the other engineers he used as test subjects died or he killed for experimentation.

One question... Is there any tie to the space jockey from Alien?

The more I think about it, the more I regret watching all the trailers for this movie when I knew I was going to see it regardless.

It gave away some of the best parts (David dropping bombs, Alien climbing up and headbutting the window while McBride was trying to fly off, the shower scene, etc.)

I caught myself towards the end of the movie thinking "well, I haven't seen the shower scene yet, so I know at least one more person is gonna die before we get outta here."

Wish they would stop doing that.

Glad I wasn't the only one who was left wondering where the hell these eggs came from, unless David engineered them. He did say he had a passion for genetics and creating hybrids. But something had to lay those eggs...right? Maybe a reveal in a future movie?

No. Honestly there isn't much of the engineers in this movie. They show them die, and that's about it.

From previous Alien movies, yes, something had to lay those eggs. I mean he had 10 years to engineer these creatures, but I don't get how he would create an egg. Looking at the drawings and the specimen creatures, you could tell he's drawn up all the different versions of the face huggers, but you don't see any embryo's or egg drawings or specimens. You only see the final egg in the basement chamber.

The only conclusion that I can come to, is that the embryo we see at the end, when cultivated and grown, becomes the egg with the face hugger in it. Not sure though.

That's a really good guess actually

Did you know that was David running out to the rescue ship towards the end, or did you think Walter got the best of him?

Me personally I knew it was David. I knew somehow he would take walters identity when he started cutting his hair and wearing his prometheus suit. But some people seemed genuinely surprised when Daniels realized it was him.

I'm not so sure of that actually. I recall reading something years back (perhaps in the director's cut to Alien) that Scott was at odds with James Cameron's "take" on the Xeno eggs in Aliens , i.e., in their needing to be produced by a Xeno queen, as opposed to developed in other ways, even engineered. Cameron's take obviously first requires a queen born from a chance facehugger-implanted parasite. Scott did not like this take because it limited the perpetuation of the species in other ways. I'm not sure which take is considered canon, but I think Scott's take doesn't require the eggs to be born of a Xeno queen.

I don't know that they did anything to specifically give it away, but I'm sure most everyone can see the twist coming from a mile away. I just kept waiting to see which moment David was actually going to turn on them. I fully expected him to try to mess up their plan to jettison the alien out the ship. I did like how they let it go until the very last minute to reveal it and allowed the helpless terror come across Daniels as she finds out.
