Norm MacDonald book preview up on Amazon (Release date 9/20)

Was looking to pre-order the new Norm MacDonald book and saw that Amazon has a few chapters you can read as a preview.
As expected, it looks to be pretty awesome.

Norm I think til this day is the only major SNL person who didn't have to do a formal audition, he just had recommendations out the arse and made Lorne laugh when he first met him.

I think of all the SNL people, Norm fascinates me the most. He is always funny and doesn't play down to the room. You either get it or you don't. Sometimes it's low brow stupid humor and other times you wonder how he comes up with it. But he is funny as hell and his unique storytelling makes him stand out.

Norm also didn't give a frick and was the one guy Lorne couldn't control. The one joke that Lorne had to revoke from Norm putting on the air was Norm starting off with a picture of naked Vietnamese children running from a napalm blast, and then Norm says "In other news, Woody Allen is dating again."

I saw Norm MacDonald and Kevin Nealon in Springfield, MO last year. It was without a doubt the funniest comedic performance I've ever seen!
Kevin Nealon was just flat out funny. There wasn't a moment when Kevin was onstage that you weren't laughing.
When Norm came on stage, he didn't start off well. Or, rather, many people in the crowd weren't familiar with his routine. He seemed like he was drunk or on drugs (or both). He was slurring a LOT and wasn't making sense.
However, about 5 or 10 minutes into his routine, the entire place was cracking up and the laughter never ended. Many people just had to take 5 or 10 people to figure him out.
At the end, both he and Kevin came onstage together, sat in chairs, and took questions from the crowd. This was unscripted. And, it ended up being more funny than their individual routines. They were playing off each other, razzing each other, razzing the crowd, talking about their SNL experience, making fun of Chris Kattan (apparently they think he's gay and don't like him because he was a punk), they deftly glossed over Chris Farley's death (the one moment they got serious), etc.
They hit the ball out of the park when they were onstage together. It was as if magic was happening. It was like having a mini-SNL backstage pass, or like watching an audition.
Highly recommend their tour.

I've been wanting to read a great celebrity Autobiography/memoir for a while now…. This is definitely it… I will buy it the day it comes out, Norm is a legend.

I clicked on that damn Rolling Stones ranking of every SNL character ever (even though I knew better) and Norm was like 136 out of 141. I immediately closed the article and forgot RS still existed once again.
And yes, they apparently rated Chris Kattan higher than Norm.....

Yeah, listening to all the other SNL alums talk about Kattan it makes you realize he was one of the worst cast members of all time. Jim Breuer, Tracy Morgan, and especially Norm all openly despised him. The only comedian I've heard of hating Norm is Kattan, and all other comedians tend to hold him in the highest regard. Really just mentioning Norm around comedians and the whole room lights up fighting to tell each other their best Norm stories. And Chris Kattan has no friends and hasn't done shite since leaving SNL.

Definitely picking this up. Legitimately excited about it!
Wish he did more podcasts of Norm MacDonald Live. I never thought some of my all-time fave podcast episodes (from anyone) would involve guests like Super Dave Osborne or Gilbert Gottfried, but Norm usually found a way to slam it out of the park....and his promo read of the ManGrate with Nick Swardson was a thing of legend

I'm reading that all in Norm's voice. Sounds like he's writing the way he tells stories. If you follow him on tweeter, he's been experimenting with writing/storytelling on there. It's terrible for twitter, but I've been looking forward to what he would do writing in long form.

That sounds pretty cool. I've never cared for NM much, but I've softened on that over the years. I really enjoyed his bit on Letterman's final show...that was funny (and sweet). I do like Nealon though. That sounds like a pretty good show though.
And yeah, apparently every person that's ever met Chris Kataan hates him. It's pretty hilarious.
