Here is a great article interviewing two of the kids who won the contests. Basically anything they knocked off the shelf got to go in their cart. They both won over $10k in merchandise.

there was an enormous UPS truck backing up into our driveway. It was a team of four or five guys just unloading piles and piles of boxes onto our driveway. It was pretty fast delivery. I was shocked

They brought it up years later, but one of the things a lot of people don’t realize is that they had to pay taxes on all the actual toys themselves.

Thanks government.

From what I gathered, they're bring it back on the splat... i could have misread though.

quote:

“The Splat” will dive deep to create a retro experience filled with landmark Nickelodeon programs; classic programming stunts like Nick or Treat, U-Pick and Super Toy Run;

The nick or treat and U-Pick will both be live updates, not replays of the past ones, so I'm assuming the super toy run will be new as well... idk though.

I remember seeing this advertised and wanting to do this so bad.
I would of spent all my time on the electronics and video games aisle.

Back then, the games were locked up and they had paper flyers that you would redeem. The kid said he had 10 of the same game but Toys R Us let him exchange them for other games.

Oh I feel so so bad for the parents having to pay $875 (current tax rate for my parish) for their kids to get $10k worth of toys.

We were also given $1,000 as part of the spree, and my parents were like, “We’re going to take that for taxes and stuff. You don’t need to spend $1,000. That’s ours.”

It wasn't just the toys. They flew out his entire family to Hawaii for 7 days. Hotel and plane tickets add up.

That's actually a great way to beat the system.

Go to video game aisle, and grab all the video games of a single title you can. Then, come back when you have the merch and just exchange the copies for similar-priced games.

Do the same for toys.

Nickelodeon spent a lot of money on this. They shipped the items he picked out in Hawaii on a cargo ship then transported it by train. Apparently $3,000 of his $9,000 winnings were stolen on the train.
