Did some digging after Thrawn was brought up on another topic on a different board. I haven't seen it brought up here that there is a new canon novel coming out in April entitled Thrawn, written by the same author as the Thrawn Trilogy that is part of legends now.

I've heard great things about the Thrawn Trilogy on this board and have enjoyed the canon novels I've read so far, Lost Stars and Lords of the Sith. I'm really looking forward to this new novel.

quote:

Thrawn will cover the course of several years, starting with the first time Thrawn encountered the Galactic Empire and ending just before the start of Star Wars Rebels Season Three. In an interview with StarWars.com, Zahn revealed that he was including some minor references to his past Legends stories that included Thrawn, but nothing too blatant.[5]

The Thrawn trilogy were really good books. had they made a movie based on them it would have been awesome.

I was bummed that Episode 7 didn't continue the story Zahn started there.

I read the Thrawn trilogy of books when they first came out and remember being enthralled.

They could have been the basis of a movie or two.

ETA: if I remember correctly, Thrawn was so good at military thinking that he would anticipate the rebellions every move. He was the Batman of space.

Here's a dumb question from someone who isn't really a SW fan, doesn't know much about the SW "universe", and is pretty ignorant/indifferent on the whole thing.

For those who are mega-fans, do you like that they keep adding things onto the "Star Wars" name (new rogue 1, this thrawn series, the new episodes upcoming) or are you more of a purist that would have just preferred we have 4/5/6 and leave it at that?

The only things that I can relate it to on a personal level would be something like BTTF or Indiana Jones...I aboslutely love the shite out of those trilogies (yeah, I know...) and would rank them among my favorite movies of all time. I just think that if they continued producing content related to the name (let's say for instance a new movie talking about Marty's childhood, one about Doc Brown's career, a Biff spinoff, whatever) I would really be turned off to the idea.

I like those movies too, but BTTF and Indy live in our universe. There are only so many artifact Indy can steal from Nazis, there are only so many thirty year time jumps Doc can make in BTTF. With Star Wars there is a giant universe with varying planets and species that can be explored.
You could make a 100 Star Wars movies.

Not really upset about all the movies and such. I knew Disney would milk the franchise after paying so much for it. If they stories are good that's all I care about. Though the only one I have a problem with is the Han Solo movie, I think that character is too iconic. I think more than anything I would want to see is a live-action TV series.

I personally enjoy the additional stories and spin-offs. The SW universe is just so large with virtually unlimited storylines, it'd be a shame for it to just be limited to the movies.

Having said that, certain books that came out before the Disney revamp were just too fan-fictiony, and I refused to consider them part of SW. I know they were all fan fiction, but the Thrawn series and the Old Republic series were great IMO.

I do think of the movies as the real Star Wars, though. The books are just additional side entertainment.

In case people don't watch it (it does come on Disney XD after all), Thrawn has been the main antagonist for this current season of "Star Wars: Rebels," which is canon.

Don't worry, Disney intends to.

I agree with you, though. There's so much SW materials that could be made into movies you almost don't know where to start. I'm actually looking forward to a time when SW properties gets away from the Imperial Era and focuses on other areas / stories.

The Tim Zahn books were golden, and GA Thrawn is the greatest of all of what were once Expanded Universe (now "Star Wars Legends") novels. The Rogue Squadron books were solid, too.

Thrawn's MO was to study the artwork of his opponents to gain insight to their collective psyche/baseline fears and aspirations as a species. He'd take that inside track to anticipate their every move and absolutely decimate his opponents. Plus, he surrounded himself by a multitude of fuzzy lizards whose bodies generated a vacuum field where the Force didn't work. Ysalamiri.

I'm so freaking stoked that Thrawn is now canon. Give me a canonized Mara Jade and a KOTOR-era Netflix series and I'll be happy.

I liked the Jedi Academy series. Would of loved to see those made into movies. The Maw Installation would have been cool to see as would the spice mines of Kessel.

I went to watch them the other day after seeing they were on demand. I click on it, and it says "you do not have this channel" I didn't realize Disney had a second channel.

Were the Thrawn books the ones that had a clone of Luke named Luuke? That shite is so fricking lame. Glad Disney nixed it.
