Which begs the question, where does the money come from? Their real estate in downtown Clearwater FL is valued at over $1 billion alone. Not more than a handful of those 50,000 members have the wealth of a Travolta or Cruise. So who's footing the bill?

They've been collecting $$$ since the 80s when they had a bigger following and they've been buying the property since then and the value has just gone up over time.

they have not paid taxes to the IRS
50,000 members is nothing to shake a stick at...50,000 members at let's just say $2,000 per year is $100,000,000...tax free. It's safe to assume with the sizeable donations they strong arm out of their members (the one guy said he paid them $200,000 dollars in one donation, and he's a nobody compared to guys like cruz, Travolta, or even millionaires like kirstie alley.

This begs the question of how are these facilities being used.
With 50,000 members and several large buildings around the world they must be pretty empty. I would assume that the two largest areas for scientology are LA and Clearwater? Maybe a few thousand between those two areas?

The sea org parts with LRH on the boat reminded me of that movie "The Master".
I'm assuming that movie was at least heavily influenced by Hubbard and his crew back in the day.

The people in charge of that movie came out and admitted a lot of it is based off of Hubbard and Scientology

Her son, who was in the cult too and was a rising star, said somethign to a local paper. He ended up getting the ban. She wouldn't disassociate so she got the ban.
I took it that she is still a believer but left the "church" because of their actions. That was a common theme amongst a lot of those interviews. The people didn't say they don't beleive in the teachings, they just couldn't be a part of a group that did the things they did anymore. Except for that one guy who was all WTF? this is crazy and walked away from them.

I don't think xenu and the insane tale you find upon reaching OT3 is what scientology is about. It's fun to laugh at, and it kind of illuminates how fricking insane these people are, but what scientology is about is somewhat criminal IMO

as far as outing the xenu story, probably.
but several major news magazines wrote about scientology in the 90s...disconnecting, fair game, all of that shite. TIME magazine wrote a great article and flat out said that they blackmailed the IRS.
The xenu stuff really overshadows the shite people need to hear about IMO.
