Btw Netflix is kind of killing it on the stand up theres a lot of good specials on there Bill Burr, Louie CK, Hannibal Burress, Tom Segura are some of the ones i can vouch for personally but there's a lot of other highly rated shite on there I hope to watch eventually

I just watched it tonight. Also caught up on the new Tosh special on Comedy Central. Both were solid. Tosh goes hard. Holy shite.

He is probably my favorite comedian out there. Other than his political crap, I love everything he does. Funny/witty storytelling is always funnier than forced jokes, imo.

He's ok. I love his baseball Hall of Fame bit but his half high, half asleep delivery wears on me.

I can understand that.

Oswalt was always the funniest on King of Queens IMO. Never cared for his standup.

This. I love the way Patton tells stories. Coupled with his appearance makes me laugh just thinking of all his stories.

He's horrible. His sleepwalking movie was horrible. His little personal rants are horrible.

I wince whenever he pops up in a movie.

Saw on yesterday that his wife died this week. I hate it when sad things happen to people who make me laugh.

Never watched it because I'm not sure any kind of "movie" based solely on a stand up routine can be good.

You mean his routine?

How often does this actually happen?

"My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" is brilliant and you're an idiot if you don't agree.

He's not usually that funny to me, but some of his analogies had me cracking up.

As well as some of his theories , like how presidential elections are pre-conceived.

Thought he did a great job, and I was pleasantly surprised. Would recommend

ETA: felt bad, but probably wouldn't of watched if didn't hear news about his wife, since his stand up style was usually not my cup of tea. But he nailed it, & apparently the NF community agrees (4.5 stars/ they are notoriously harsh> many with 1 star)

He was in New Orleans in February and did pretty much the same act. Me and a buddy went to see him and oddly enough met him on the street before the show. He was acting real weird though.

Came to find out that he had gotten drunk as shite at Port O' call that day because he talked about it when he came out. he wound up improving some parts of his set and didn't do the exact same set from Netflix but 70% of it was the same. I remembered the my little pony and worst clown ever bits from the New Orleans show.

I loved that one. It wasn't so much laugh out loud hilarious standup, but it was really engaging and unique, endearing even.

Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of standup, so my opinion might not hold weight with most. My wife and I joke about every standup special on Netflix and how every single one of them have just the worst and un-imaginative promo art, and it's almost all "I'M GOING TO OFFEND YOU, WATCH OUT". None of it, from the surface, looks appealing.

Birgiglia, Mulaney, and Johnagin are the only ones I have time for.

Patton is maybe the best standup of his era. He's a terrible actor (Big Fan, excepted), but he's just terrific on the stage. His recreation of a heroin junkie's open mic night is one of the funniest things I've ever hear. He's just a pure standup in the Carlin mold. He's not good at other things, just standup.

But man, I'm not sure I can watch this right now given that his wife just suddenly died last week. It's too depressing. I can't separate the human being from the funny man right now, and have to put this on the shelf for awhile.

Don't get me wrong, Patton is good but what do you consider his era?
