Coach doesn't bother me.
What bothers me is Nick being a bitch and Schmidt not being Schmidt.

The show was so much better without Coach

Coach sucks and they've run Winston's character into the ground.
Show is at it's best when Nick and Schmidt are playing off each other.
I was and still am confused why they moved Schmidt out.

I think this article sums it up. This season is a mess and they have no direction of than Nick and Jess.

and bringing back Coach (the amazingly talented Damon Wayans Jr, who is one of the most gifted comedic actors in TV today) could have been great, but the writers still don’t know what to do with him.
Lost me here. What has Wayans done on TV that would make him the most gifted comedic actor on TV?

Happy Endings? You mean the show that got shite canned for poor ratings? He wasn't very funny on it either, none of the guys were to be honest. They were all effeminate men while the girls on the show had two dumb asses and a girl who acted like one of the guys.
It was a clusterfrick of a show that had some laughs.

While I didn't watch the show regularly, I think Adam Pally is hysterical.

That guy is funny in other stuff but not overly funny in that show. Like I said, the show had some laughs but overall it should have been canceled.

The decline of New Girl is more on the writing than it is on Coach. Shitty writing has brought the show down.
Schmitt having a hard time choosing between Cece and the fat chick?
Winston and that cat?

The problem with New Girl is they concluded the will they/won't they too quickly. Pretty much all shows that have a main storyline of will they/won't they between main characters gets worse once they get together. It's tough bc you want them to get together but once they do that whole dynamic is gone and something's missing.
It happened with Bones, I was so glad when they finally got together but it changed the show, it wasn't the same.
In Chuck there were so many other great storylines and characters to focus on they pulled it off well when Chuck and Sarah got together, but it still wasn't quite the same.
Scrubs was pretty much over when JD and Elliot were finally together for good, they did it right.
With New Girl they got together too quickly, they needed to make the audience want it more and more until they basically had to be together. That usually takes 4-5 seasons and as a viewer you're just so happy they're together you don't care that the show changes because of it, they didn't make us what it enough to accept the new show dynamic.

They need to do of of two things (or possibly both):
Get the focus back on the Schmidt/CeCe seesawing relationship
Break Nick and Jess up but in a way that they both stay around (maybe have Nick move out and not Jess like you'd assume). They would also have to do it in a way they could still get together in the future.
Here's my fix for Jess/Nick, this would take place over the next 2-3 seasons
Jess wants to take their relationship to the next step, but she wants Nick to grow up, stop being a slacker and get a real job. They have a big fight and break up. Nick moves across the hall with Schmidt.
Nick can't get over Jess despite trying, he decides to get his life together. He gets his own place, a temp job or something a a law firm but doesn't tell Jess. Eventually she finds out, sees he's maturing, and now they are back together happily ever after

They had a no nail oath. They violated that and it almost messed up the show. Then they actually broke them up and they started dating other people and it was awesome. Them getting together just destroyed the dynamic of the show just like the same situation in real life would work. The roommates dating doesn't work. The writers wrote it into the show, Schmit said it about a thousands times, and then they just ignored their own advice. Much like they are now ignoring Schmidt. It's a bummer.

Look at friends before chandler and Monica got together and while Ross and Rachel were just banging occasionally and didn't have a kid. The first few seasons of friends is absolutely awesome tv. Pre-monica chandler is one of my favorite tv charactere of all time. Once main characters get together you lose a lot of story archs, ways to introduce guest stars, and the entire characters change from what they used to be. Not usually for the better

Coach is extremely mediocre. Not terrible, but...it's just so forced.
At this point they're just coasting. I hope they can pick it up.
