New Fantastic Four not based on comics

So I am starting to jump on the "dumpster fire" bandwagon after reading this article.
Kate Mara says she never read a comic and was advised not to since the movie is not based on any existing story. WTF? Why ignore 70 years of history?
This production has me totally confused. Also, for the "human torch is black" freak out, Dr. Storm is also black. No idea about their mom or how Sue fits into this mix. What is happening with this thing?

This high school version of Fantastic Four has always looked to be a terrible thing waiting to happen, but it just keeps on giving.

This will make the original movies look good in comparison. I didn't think that was possible.

It wouldn't be the interweb if someone didn't.
I have no thoughts on this movie, never saw the first two, won't see this one. Just wanted to say that I had dinner with the Human Torch and The Thing a couple weeks back at Pluckers. By "had dinner with them," I mean "I sat a couple tables away while they ate with Nina Dobrev and a couple hangers on."

DC >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marvel

The cast just seems horrible. Everybody is too damn young. Fox has done OK with the X-Men. But Sony needs to sell the Spiderman rights to Marvel and Fox needs to do the same with the Fantastic Four.

I honestly don't think they expect this to do well.
Fox just doesn't want to lose the rights to FF.
Aren't they allowing the director to do the same film style as he did for Chronicle? If that is the case, they are going for low-budget just to retain ownership.

easily, this. before production got under way, articles came out say Fox was looking to scrap the script, director, and cast. instead, they choose to ignore the very thing the movie is based on. they push out a movie, retain rights, and put in real effort into a sequel is probably their thinking

Getting worse and worse. Even with the cast there was some hope. Now, not so much.

never saw that movie this director did a few years ago mainly because it seemed like "hey what if a bunch of emo douche kids got super powers" looks like he's taking this in a similar direction
never cared for f4 anyway. I just wish Marvel could their hands on them for some of their villains though

Hahaha no
The last batman movie had to many flaws, man of steel was terrible, and the only good news so far about the batman vs superman movie is they are bringing back the old batmobile.
Avengers for the win

The two previous Fox FF efforts were not great, but not the disaster this seems to be shaping up to be. Aside from Gruffudd/Alba, the actors they had were decent for the roles (Evans was great as Johnny [very much like the comics], Chiklis did pretty well as Ben Grimm, and McMahon was a good [although, a little too campy] Victor von Doom). Unfortunately, when your leads are weak, it does not help.

after thinking about it, could a bigger issue be that Fantastic Four just isn't great for movies? It could just be this property does not translate well.
Hell, the comic is one of Marvel's worst sellers and has been very a long time. The cartoon versions never last long either.

Who would you cast as the Fantastic Four if the rights reverted to Marvel?
Mine would be:
Reed Richards - Adrian Brody
Susan Storm - Isla Fisher
Johnny Storm - Eric Christian Olsen
Ben Grimm - John Cena
and I would introduce the characters in other properties, such as Agents of SHIELD, and the other movies set in NYC.
