Fair.

This may be fair to a degree, since he started cashing out. He brings a lot of subtlety to performances you don't always notice right away, but most of his great performances are from his younger years, no question.

Samuel L. Jackson? I mean, he's fantastic, but he's got that 1 play he runs to perfection (to use a sports metaphor) - ditto for Joe Pesci and, wait for it, Nathan Lane.

5 or so years ago I would have said Jonah Hill, but he's really broadened his range since then. So, I'm gonna go with Zack Galifinackis (sp?). He plays the same quirky weirdo in every movie he's in. When I first saw the trailer for Due Date a few years back I honestly thought it was an Allen from The Hangover spinoff movie.

ETA Speaking of Due Date
While I know he has way more range RDJ has been basically playing the smart arse Tony Stark character in every movie he's been in since Iron Man.

No, most people admit it.

That's why he was the biggest movie star ever.

People went to see John Wayne.

It wasn't a John Wayne movie...it was John Wayne.

I once stood in line for Donnie Brasco waiting to get tickets...and the guy in front of me was buying his...

And all he told the ticket gal was "Pacino."

That reminds me of what John Wayne probably was X10 in his day.

They could have just put on the marquee - "John Wayne movie."

But at least we know he has range based on his full career. Same thing with Cage, Deniro, Pacino. They have nothing to prove. Some of these famous guys have never strayed.

JASON STATHAM. What is he in this movie, a former cop? Special forces? Bodyguard? And what is the reason he needs revenge this time? His best performance was his role in Lock Stock Two Smoking Barrels.

Liam Neeson plays a wide range of characters so he gets credit for that, and I won't say he's a bad actor. but he always acts the same. He seems to be unable to mask his accent (just like Statham). Whether he's playing a US Admiral or a former CIA or a Greek god or a therapist for Nell, he has the same voice inflections, same facial expressions, same general wooden-ness (like Harrison Ford and Keanu Reeves).

Tom Cruise

He plays a prick in every movie. Prick bar tender, prick pilot, prick race car driver, prick spy.

I give Cruise more credit. He's usually a prick, but not always. And his movies and characters are different enough.
