Mine would have to be An American Crime and the Flock. Both are extremely bleak and the subject matter is really tough. I think they also struck a nerve because I knew nothing about either movie before I watched them.

I havent been able to watch a movie with keener in it since and not think of her performance in this.

The Machinist and Requiem are 2 pretty disturbing movies that are neither horror nor torture and are also highly praised.

Requiem for a Dream is definitely at the top of the list. The Greek film Dogtooth, which was nominated for best foreign film a couple of years ago, is another good, recent one.

The Road. The book is a hundred times more disturbing and depressing than the movie though.

I would, more of a mental torture for that family.

The Accused. Watched it when I was a young teenager and it was definitely disturbing.

Changeling with Angelina Jolie

That movie is an absolute Debbie downer mood killer. Just downright gut wrenching.

Great call on funny games. The us trailer is one if my favorite trailers. A lot of haneke's movies are disturbing. Especially white ribbon. Irresistible and dogtooth are pretty messed up too.
