I've chosen this series for my next TV show binge. Before I move forward, I wanted to get the board's thoughts. Is it worth the watch? There's 213 episodes, so there's defining a lot of time to be invested. How does it compare in quality to Battlestar Galatica?

Thanks

It's going to seem a little dated and the budget is definitely less... but there are some really good seasons.

I actually liked the last few when all the Farscape cast showed up.

It's far less doom and gloom than BS:G.

Amanda Tapping still looks great for someone in her late-40's.

Do it, still a fantastic show.

I just binged a few seasons of it. Never gets old for me. It's a fairly consistent show that progresses well with each season. IMO

It's a different sort of show than Battlestar. Battlestar is almost like a huge movie in how the episodes build on each other. SG-1 is a lot more episodic, if that's saying it correctly. I think you can take episodes just by themselves and catch them out of sequence some, and it's fairly unaffected as long as you know enough of the background. Maybe I just think that because that's how I always caught it. I never made a point to watch them in order. I would just occasionally watch an episode when I happened to catch one on.

I enjoyed the episodes I've watched although I think I'm missing some of the bigger picture. I've thought about trying to go back and watch through, but it just seems like a lot to actually get through. Maybe I'll start chipping away.

It rates up there for me as far as sci fi series goes. Ahead of it I can only for sure put B5 and DS9.

It's a great series. Characters grow on you and it can be sappy at times.

Not comparable to Battlestar.

Lots of good humor.

Fun show.

The last couple of seasons weren't very good.

Atlantis was also solid from start to end.

SGU sucked and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Sometimes I forget that I watched 10 episodes of it and that it even existed. Then I am reminded of that dark time in my life.

It's definitely worth the watch. Like others have already said, you can't compare it to BSG, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a good series. It is actually one of my favorite scifi series, mainly because it was always consistent and lasted so long. It's definitely worth the investment.

I binged SG-1 a few years ago when my wife was out of town over about a month. It was one of the better binge experiences I've had. They keep throwing enough new stuff at you each week that even a standard Monster of the Week episode can feel like a main arc advancement "You mean the (RandomMyth) were aliens too?!" If you like SG-1 you'll want to watch Stargate Atlantis as well.

Great show I have watched SG-1 and SG:A at least twice each. The only thing good about SG:U was these

Thanks for all the feedback.

I noticed SG-1 & Atlantis aired together from 2004-2007. Should I watch all of SG-1 & then Atlantis? Or start watching both starting with the 2004 seasons?

I never really watched Atlantis very much, but I do know that it takes place in a different galaxy entirely with a completely different cast. I'm not sure that order really matters between the two.

Yes. Start watching Atlantis when they overlap. SG-1 being the 1st of the 2 hrs in sequence. There's a crossover or 2 IIRC.

The overlap starts with season 8 of SG-1. (SPOILERS)

Elizabeth Weir is put in charge of SG-1 at the beginning of season 8. SG-A starts right after O'Neill is promoted to BG.

Atlantis sends a subspace transmission near the end of season 1 asking for help. SGC sends the Daedalus in response. It arrives at the beginning of season 2.

The second episode of season 2 takes place in the middle of episode 1 of season 9 of SG-1, while Daniel Jackson is in a coma as a result of an encounter at Stonehenge.

There's a 3 episode crossover between season 10 of SG-1 and season 3 of SG-A.

Col. Carter takes command of Atlantis in season 4. She takes command of the Icarus (from SG-U) in season 5 when Woolsey takes command of Atlantis.
