In my opinion the best movies are ones that make you feel as many emotions as possible. Joy, sadness, humor, etc.

Two movies immediately come to mind when I think of movies like this:

Forest Gump. You have the funny moments with Forest's mannerisms. You have sadness- when Bubba dies, when Forest's mom dies, when Jenny leaves Forest. You have joy- when Forest reunites with Lt. Dan and then Jenny.

Lonesome Dove- Plenty of funny moments, most from Gus. Many sad moments- Leaving Lonesome Dove, Jake being hung, Lorena being kidnapped, Deets and Gus dying. Then the moments of yoy- Gus seeing Clara again and the drive finally arriving in Montana.

What other movies bring out all types of emotion for you?

I thought Forrest Gump at first.
Saving Private Ryan is another one that comes to mind.

Second Hand Lions
The Legend of Bagger Vance
Casablanca (there's a reason it's considered the greatest American film; or at least juggles with Citizen Kane)

Caddyshack II!

You cry when you realize what was done to the legacy. You laugh at everyone involved in the film wondering how they thought this was a good idea. You get angry when Dan Akroyd uses a silly voice trying (and failing) to copy Bill Murray from the first film. And finally you rejoice, when the ending credits roll.

This movie is under-rated to me. I love this flick.

The Last American Virgin

The first half is like watching Porky's, but the second half turns into a real drama.

Great movie, but there weren't exactly many funny scenes.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was pretty funny in that one.
