I guess it's just become the tradition, and so all movie makers do this thing, but what the frick is up with movie credits?

What other industry or individual art makers have the need to cite by name EVERY FREAKIN PERSON who had even the remotest role in the production of a thing?

Painters generally sign their artwork, but they don't put the names of the model, the paint maker, the canvass weaver, the brush manaufacturer, the neighbor who held the ladder while they changed the light bulb in the studio; the pizza delivery guy; the answering machine maker who's invention helped them to stay on task, the easel maker; and the key grip (whatever the hell that guy does)...

Also, if they don't do that, what's to say that I won't lie on my resume and claim to be a part of greatness?

Well if that's the case, then union leaders in other industries need to get the frick off the snide.

Think about all of the people that helped make your car. Their names should be listed on the back bumper or something.

What do you mean "won't"?

It is a completely collaborative and long process that takes every single craft listing you see. If you don't get a credit, then how do you expect to sell yourself to the next show?

The union rules really apply mostly to the title cards at the beginning of the film ... the rest come after the film and are not required viewing.

What I hate is when the creditS are put at the beggining of the movie. Superman was the first time I noticed it. Took forever to get to the movie.

its also a way to get people to work cheaper. A lot of guys in this business will take a pay cut in exchange for a credit. imdb is god to everyone in this business.

Pay cuts for credits are good for a non-union film and is usually for people trying to break in the business. Any film you see in a theater is under IATSE jurisdiction.

IMDB is the only true source of checking legit credits, so it is very important

yeah, i suppose i worded that wrong. There used to be a lot of Craigslist ads that said

"compensation, no pay, but credits"

or something to that effect.

I do enjoy the people on IMDB who have uncredited gigs.

those craiglist ads are mostly super low budget or student films, which are the best place to get your foot in the door and start building your resume (which is really just a listing of your credits)

most entry level crew have to work shite jobs with long hours//low pay .... that is why being in IATSE is key once you get established
