If you google " she dropped it on purpose" 4 out of the top 5 links are about A League Of Their Own. I choose to believe that in the future there will not be Christians and Jews, Sunni or Shiites...there will be On Purpose or Not On Purpose

and she did drop it on purpose. That's the correct answer.

No - it doesn't really make any narrative sense. She faced her sister and could have made her the hero on the mound. She could have kept her mouth shut about the "high ones" - she could have tanked the throw and avoided the collision altogether.

This. Why go through all that just to drop in on purpose. Why not let the throw fricking go between your legs or some bullshite.

This is inconsequential. There are more than a few reasons to explain why she didn't make that choice earlier.

I have it on the highest authority that she dropped the ball on purpose.

Nine Burning Questions About A League of Their Own

quote:

8. Is Dottie Hinson a good teammate?

She abandons the Peaches before the World Series only to come back for a deciding Game 7 and (Spoiler Alert!) drop the ball on purpose in the final play of the game. This reeks of the Black Sox scandal.

I never chimed in on this debate before but I'll do so now.

Conclusion: On purpose

Her "letting go" of the baseball was IN FACT a very obvious metaphor of...wait for it....

HER LETTING GO OF BASEBALL

and accepting what really matters in life.

Sometimes in order to truly win, you gotta lose. And Dotti's sister meant more to her than the game.

We really should have a profile option of

Positiger or Negatiger

and

On Purpose or Not on Purpose.

It would really be beneficial in judging someone's post quality/education level.

There's a controversy about this? She clearly dropped it on purpose.

Was literally, just going to post this. It's something Kit fans don't catch. They focus too much on winning, on Kit.

In fact, I think the Kit Truthers are really just like Kit. The win, the "sports story," it just means more to them. It frames their entire perspective of the film. The game must be decisively won, everybody must put everything into the game.

And that's exactly what the movie is about, that THE GAME, the WIN are just not important to some people.

This is the dumbest argument by you Kitt people. Dottie was an animal and the best player on the team. No one would believe she made a simple error. And if she did, it wouldn't make her sister a star. She tried everything she could to make Kit win on her own. But the fact is she was a better player. She dropped it on purpose.

Its possible because some people watch a mediocre movie once and don't obsess over it and therefore don't hear about any controversy.

I hardly remember watching that movie but in the clip above that gives no context, and I don't recall the context, it appears that the ball is firmly grasped during the hand's first bounce but that ultimately the full effect of the vicious collision took hold and the ball was dropped unwillingly by the catcher. In fact, it looks like the hand of a temporarily unconscious person.

The forced scene with the black woman zipping the ball back to Dottie threw the film from the realm of docu-entertainment into parody.

I really didn't care about the reality of any of the games after that.
