I have your attention?

Christian Bale ignites religious row ahead of Exodus movie release by describing prophet as 'barbaric'

Christian Bale, who plays Moses in Exodus: Of Gods and Kings, the forthcoming biblical epic directed by Ridley Scott has upset several Christian writers after he described his character as 'barbaric' and 'schizophrenic'.

Speaking at a press conference in Los Angeles last month, Bale said he had undertaken significant research for the role, including also reading the Torah, the Koran and Jonathan Kirsch’s life of Moses.

‘I think the man was likely schizophrenic and was one of the most barbaric individuals that I ever read about in my life,’ he said.

Bale also said he was surprised by the complexity of the Old Testament figure – and his creator.

‘He was a very troubled, tumultuous man and mercurial. But the biggest surprise was the nature of God. He was equally very mercurial.’

Bale’s controversial comments haven't been well received by Christian writers and bloggers who fear the film is tampering too much with the original Biblical text.

Influential Christian writer, Brian Godawa, who leaked elements of the Noah script online before the movie was finished, weigh in on Bale’s comments at his blog.

'Yes, Moses murdered a man, and he had a character arc that went from being adopted and raised as a pagan Egyptian to a conversion to his troubled and tumultuous faith.

'He had difficulty trusting Yahweh. He didn’t want to be God’s spokesman because he stuttered. And he even had arguments with God.

If Moses was schizophrenic, it's safe to say we all are.

But seriously, his comments show two things:

1. He doesn't know what schizophrenia really is
2. He didn't read the Torah closely enough

Meaning the Koran is ONLY written in Arabic? I would believe Bale if he said he had read a translated version of the Koran.

It's one of those things that can be safely assumed as his intended meaning.

Why are you confused about Bale not reading the Torah closely enough?

It's clear, if one truly studied it while keeping in mind it's context, that Moses matured and changed spiritually as he aged and grew closer to God. Did he make mistakes? Yeah. That makes him human, not schizo.

It is apparent that Bale was referring to the possibility that Moses had difficulty in distinguishing between what is real and not real, depending on your perspective.

Unless one assumes that hearing the voice of God necessarily makes one schizophrenic, which would be the case in today's society.

Definition of Schizophrenia:
Schizophrenia (/?sk?ts?'fr?ni?/ or /?sk?ts?'fri?ni?/) is a mental disorder often characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to recognize what is real. Common symptoms include false beliefs, unclear or confused thinking, auditory hallucinations, reduced social engagement and emotional expression, and inactivity.

Moses could very well have been schizophrenic.

Yet retained all knowledge and experience enough to write it (or have it written) down coherently? Schizo's can't roll like that.

Well, we are all schizo then right?

We all, to some degree, fail to recognize or accept the true reality of life. We all believe somethings that are false. We all have times of unclear thinking, and are often confused here and there. We all, at some point would rather be inactive and shy from social engagement.

Dumb overgeneralized definition is dumb and overgeneralized.
