Watching something on AMC right now that made me think of this category: mediocre movies with well known casts.

The movie I'm watching right now is Cahill U.S. Marshall

It's somewhat remembered as one of John Wayne's later movies, but the rest of the cast list has these names:

George Kennedy
Denver Pyle (Uncle Jessie from the Dukes of Hazzard)
Jackie Coogan (The Kid and Uncle Fester from the Addams Family)
Harry Carey Jr.
And a bunch of others.

This may not be the best example, but there were a lot of movies from the 60s
and 70s with better casts than storylines. Any other examples?

That was a good one with president Jack Nichols.

Armageddon (though it is one of those can't pass it up when I see it on tv kind of movies)

So many modern animated jobs. It seems their formula is just to throw as many celebs into voice roles as they can and just wing it from there.

The most recent example I can think of is Monuments Men.

George Clooney
John Goodman
Bill Murray
Matt Damon
Cate Blanchett

Not a bad movie, but not exceptional.

Tons of those "disaster" flicks in the 70's would qualify. Some were good movies some horrid.

Earthquake with Charlton Heston/ava Gardner/ George Kennedy/Walter Mathieu

Airport

The towering inferno with Paul Newman Steve McQueen and William Holden would make a list too IMO

Showtime. Deniro, Eddie Murphy, Rene Russo. Just an unfunny buddy cop movie.

The last Fast and Furious. How could a movie with Vin Diesel, Rock, Paul Walker, CGI Paul Walker, and Jason Statham be so stupid?

The Men Who Stare At Goats - Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey

It's been a while since I saw it but I just remember it being really strange, and not as good as the trailers.

That's a good one. I was pumped to see it. There were some hilarious scenes (when George killed the goat). But it wasn't as amazing as I had hoped.
