its taken with a grain of salt, but pretty cool that he loves that character and would do it again with the right script. i just dont think Nic can do another script like season 1 quality.
im torn on this. id love to see a prequel of Rust before TD, but i loved season 1 and dont want to tarnish it. either way im good
Matthew McConaughey Talked With ‘True Detective’ Boss About Season 3 Return
Read More: Matthew McConaughey Up for 'True Detective' Season 3 Return | LINK drama problem seems only to increase as 2016 rolls on, a slump that last year dragged True Detective from top-tier to bottom-shelf to cold storage. Matthew McConaughey might just be up for a cold one, however, claiming to have talked with creator Nic Pizzolatto about returning Rustin Cohle for True Detective Season 3.
You’ll naturally want to take this one with a grain of salt, as HBO had already tabled further True Detective before new network head Casey Bloys started shutting down its non-starters, but McConaughey dropped by The Rich Eisen Show with some good news. Not only is the Free State of Jones star open to reprising the role of Rustin Cohle in a future True Detective season, he’s even spoken with Nic Pizzolatto about it:
Yeah, I would consider [going back]. I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights, I miss watching ‘True Detective’ on Sunday nights. I was a happy man when I made that for six months, because I was on my own island. Luckily my wife put up with me …
But yeah, I would. I’ve talked to Nic about it. It would have to be the right context, the right way. That [script], when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes if I can play this guy, Rustin Cohle, I’m in.
Of course, Pizzolatto maintains a development deal at HBO that has yet to publicly bear fruit, while insiders have suggested a new project is more likely than additional True Detective seasons.
Finding a way to return Matthew McConaughey would certainly jumpstart things, but is Rustin Cohle best left alone from any and all future True Detective?

The main thing about last year's was it just seemed rushed IMO. The first season was well thought out and had the absolute perfect cast. Last year's cast was pretty meh when it came to main characters.

IMO the cast wasn't the problem.

Well to be fair. Nic wrote the first season at his pace. The second season was rushed due to the the success of the first.

the stars really aligned for the first season of True Detective
To me, it's the best mini series/season of a tv show ever made.
I don't know that the magic could be recreated

I bet he does. Rust Chole is an awesome character. Unfortunately, I don't think the writer has another script in him near that caliber. Season 1 = Pizzolatto's load is blown. That's all folks.

He needs to be though.
HBO has been blowing all of their GOT $ on silly BS. Westworld is treading water in endless delays and issues and cost overruns. Vinyl was more expensive than GOT and was a slapstick, over the top bomb. Ballers is a parade of bad acting and cliches. They cancelled a slew of other, smaller budget shows due to no audience. They have nothing else going for them other than GOT aside from Silicon Valley and Silicon Valley in its 3rd season is closing in on having no story left to tell soon - the Entourage Problem, we have watched these guys climb the mountain, which was fun as hell, but, they've climbed it; they're there, so any further stories are just going to be manufactured drama nobody is interested in, like having your main character date Sasha Grey.
Someone has to step in and be "that guy" who everyone hates for cutting fat, re-arranging departments and authories, and righting the ship. Nobody likes that guy. That guy has to know that going in. I work for a company that was a failing POS before the current CEO turned it into a roaring success story that will be in business school books for decades. Everyone likes him NOW, because people like success. But I'm 100% sure he was loathed at first and labeled a jerk.

Not to mention Starz and Showtime have really stepped up their quality of shows.

Vice Principals should be outstanding.

Really looking forward to this. Boyd Crowder would own Kenny Powers

Not the best in my opinion...but absolutely one of the tops for me.

I'm not a fan of prequels personally. My main problem is you know that character is safe. They have zero chance of dying. In a detective show where people are dying left and right, it takes away from the story.

Veep is the best show on TV let alone HBO.
Also, it is now public knowledge that Larry David and Curb are coming back

True Detective isn't a show that needs to have a new season every year or it will come across as rushed and sloppy. It needs to come every two-four years to get the story right.

Well that and many of Rust Cohle's lines were straight plagiarized from Thomas Ligotti.
