After Ben Affleck dropped out as director of The Batman a couple of weeks ago, it was said that Matt Reeves would step in and take his place. Reeves later backed away, and the search was on once again. Today, Warner Bros. has reported that Reeves will, in fact, helm the upcoming Ben Affleck film. The press release from WB noted that he would direct and produce the film.

Here's what Reeves had to say in a statement:

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen

Years ago I said this cinematic universe wouldn't even make it to Wonder Woman.

I was wrong, but not by much it seems.

DC should take its cinematic universe to television. I feel the Marvel shows (sans Agents of SHIELD) are much better and more fleshed out than their film counterparts. DC's television arm is much better than its cinematic arm. So I say kill the DCEU, make a deal with Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu, and take this bitch to the small screen.

If they did a Batman live action show like they did Daredevil, the possibilities are literally limitless.

I mean, really, why bother releasing Wonder Woman and the Justice League at this point and just turn it into a major film documentary like OJ: Made in America?

Might as well fast track that second Justice League film to wrap this all up.

This is really a dumpster fire. They need to clean house at WB.

Just fire everyone and start over.

so it’s possible Warner Bros. was intent on starting production on The Batman ASAP and Reeves wanted to take his time.

Dear Warner Bros,

Rushing things and putting movies together as soon as you could without any attention to detail and fleshing out a worth story is what got you into this mess with a complete shite show of a cinematic universe that's not really worth a shite.

Yours truly,

DC Comics fans who want good character driven DC comic book movies.

He never really signed so he hasn't really dropped out, they just couldn't agree to terms

Potahto or Potato. It doesn't make a difference.

The problem here is that Warner bros fricked up by hiring a talentless hack in Snyder and then fricked up even more rushing to put all these terrible movies together and now they're paying a price for it as their stars want to jump ship and no one of note wants to work with a complete disaster of a franchise that was ruined after BvS.
