Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

I caught this last night for the first time in a long while and it was amazing.
I forgot how good this movie was. I feel that its pretty underrated, no one really talks about it. One of Crowe's better performances in my opinion.
Boards thoughts on this film?

Much like The Incredibles is the best Fantastic Four Movie, Master and Commander is the best Star Trek movie made.

It's fricking great IMO. Truly a pretty underrated film in that most people I don't know have never seen it nor have they even heard of it. But it's really, really good.
I remember stumbling upon it on DVD and thinking "I remember this movie, it won some awards I think" and I bought it. Watched it soon after and was blown away with how good it was.
I can't imagine life on the sea like they used to do back in the day.

One of the best movies ever. Of all the movies I want sequels to, this crowns the list. Absolutely criminal that the box office returns didn't justify any follow-ups. There was plenty more source material to draw from.

Have any of y'all read the books?
I gave the first one a try shortly after seeing the movie.
Wow, it reads like a Tom Clancy level of technical detail about sailing ships. There's got to be 30 different types of jib sails alone. And lines and knots just get ridiculous.
For me, it was just too much, I couldn't get in to the story for sake of the sailing terminology and tech.
It's one of the very few books I didn't finish.

I love it. So many people hate it though, which I find odd.

It's amazing, and still doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Still not worth beating the shite out of a hotel concierge with a phone, though.

It is a classic now. I love watching certain movies over and over and this is one of them.

It's a great work all around. Nothing lacking IMO.

I love it and I will watch it any time it is playing. It is my favorite Russell Crowe role by far.

Great film.
Peter Weir - Just doesn't make enough films or tap into those skills enough, but that film is just superbly directed. One of my favorite directorial efforts post-2000.

Love it. Great cast.
FWIW, the Americans are the bad guys in the novels.

It is sad that Hollywood will pump out stupid, ill conceived remakes but can't seem to put together a sequel or 2 to this fantastic movie.
