Marvel's The Punisher spin-off ordered by Netflix

quote:

It’s official: The Punisher is getting his own TV series. EW has learned that Marvel has ordered a spin-off starring vigilante character introduced in Daredevil season 2. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as vengeful military veteran Frank Castle, who brings his own lethal form of justice to Hell’s Kitchen. Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hanniba, Casualty) will serve as showrunner. Marvel’s The Punisher marks the sixth series ordered (so far) as part of the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble miniseries The Defenders – along with Jessica Jones and the aforementioned Daredevil. (And in case you’re wondering, as we are, whether Bernthal’s character will also be added to The Defenders lineup, that’s not yet clear – though it seems likely he’ll at least pop in for an appearance.) Word that Netflix was working on a potential Punisher spin-off was first reported by TV Line last summer. Netflix and Marvel are expected to publicly announce the project later Friday. Here is the first teaser image for the new series:

i have no complaints here.

wish his role in the finale was a bit more than 3 sniper shots, but i liked where they left his character.

Marvel's Netflix shows are just awesome. I hope they pull from some of Frank's best stories. Anything from Ennis, maybe The Slavers, or Miller's Up is Down-Black is White....but we'll probably get something akin to War Journal, which would still be good.

Doesn't this push back The Defenders even more?

Given the tone of the Netflix series, this is great news. I am a huge Punisher fan so I am absolutely pumped for this.

Na, Frank will appear but he won't be core team. I think Defenders is safe. They are building a narrative for that story line.

What would be cool, however, would be to do this Defender run, start the Punisher then green light a Black Knight Series, Moon Knight series, Elektra series and you could probably throw something else in there and do a Knights run (many many heroes have been under Marvel Knights). Go crazy and use Marvel Boy, Shang Chi, or Shanna.

The Netflix comic universe is perfect for Punisher.

I'm still holding out hope for Blade and Ghost Rider series.

Would be really interesting. GR would be tough, it's just too much SFX needed. And there were Snipes rumors for awhile which would have been ok by me. I think a Blade Netflix series would be fun. It would have to be less vampire though, more occult.

I admit I've never read The Punisher comics.

But is he going to be a good guy in the spin off?

The guy brutally murders people and seems to have no inner conflict doing so. I'm just curious where the character development will be.

They really are, I actually enjoy the shows more than most comic book films. I'd like to see Fox and DC take some of their properties to Netflix as well.

And Daredevil brutally puts them in jail. But there's conflict there. Should he be acting as a superhero? Should he just kill the bad guys instead of promoting the justice department?

What are the questions for the Punisher?
