I put off watching this movie for a long time because I've experienced a very painful Labrador loss of my own. Unable to get to sleep last night, however, it was about the only thing on TV that caught my attention.

So, what to say about this movie except... NOT ENOUGH DOG.

The story about the reporter and his family was dreadfully boring. Then, there was very little interaction between family and dog except to see Marley rip into garbage several times. At the end of the movie when the family buries the dog I didn't find the kids' goodbyes very moving because I couldn't recall many times in the movie where they actually talked, played, hugged, kissed, or shared secrets with him.

Not to brag, but my own relationship with my own Labrador was a lot richer and more interesting than theirs with Marley.

I also found it very disturbing that they showed Marley's put-down in detail. What on earth was the point of THAT?

Yea when he was at the vet petting the dog while they gave the shot. (I could have done without that) maybe a simple fade scene or something. I had a couple of my kids in the room and it was not pretty. (my fault)

The book was a lot better, it was exactly what you were talking about...the family relationship with the dog. The movie was more about the writer, and him dealing with his family. The movie really wasn't all that great, but I appreciated it more because of the book. Plus, I'm a dog lover, so I liked it. Not something I can watch over and over though for obvious reasons.

I lost my dog in September (a couple of weeks shy of his 12th birthday) and there's no way I'm watching Marley and Me anytime soon, if ever. Putting my dog to sleep was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make....and that particular day was the worst of day of my life.

I've seen the very beginning several times and i'm glad i read this post. Didn't realize how it ends and glad i didn't watch. I have a 12-year old golden and i dread that day.

I lost my bulldog over 5 years ago and I still think about him even though I immediately got a new dog.

I agree that the day he died was the worst ever....so I never want to watch this movie.

This movie pissed me the frick off. The damn dog died from a PREVENTABLE CONDITION!! If the owners wouldn't have been idiots that dog would have live a lot longer. It was sad, yes, but inexcusable behavior by the owners made this movie stupid.

I loved this movie, but its pretty disturbing to me that the worst days in most of ya'll lives is when your dog dies.

Have you ever had a dog? I'm a big time dog lover and losing a pet is very hard for some people....and I'm one of them.

My dog lived with us for almost 12 years. He became family. He slept in the bed every night, he went on vacation with us, and we all had one big routine together. Every day when I came home, he would greet me at the door. When the day suddenly came when he got sick and we brought him to the vet and they informed us that the best option would be to put him to sleep, that was shocking and sad at the same time.

Don't EVER take a shot at someone for being down beacuse they lost their pet. If you're not attached to pets, fine, but MANY people are.

I think he's meaning it would be a worse day if a family member/loved one died. If that's the case, it should probably be worded differently.

True story Rex,
When I got divorced after a 17 year marriage to a totally beautiful but bitch from Hell I wandered through the weirdness of singledom for 3 years. Then a beautiful young lady saw me with my black lab. That lady fell in love with my dog and soon realized she would have to marry me to get the dog.
The dog died after 16 years of a rich wonderful life out here on the lake...swimming, chasing squirrels and eating people food.
We have pictures of the black lab that brought us together all over the place. We have new dogs and always will. But it's funny to realize I wouldn't have my wife without that dog.

You must have never had a dog. A dog becomes part of the family. I have had my beagle since I was 11 years old. I have seen the dog everyday since then except when on vacation, and sometimes we would take him on vacation. If you ever have a dog you will realize that every dog has a unique personality and you cant find two dogs that are exactly the same, just like with people. The best day of my life is when my parents brought home my dog, and one of the worst days will be when that dog dies.

I saw it in theaters and cried my arse off.

My yellow lab was only a few months old at the time. I went home that night and wouldn't let her out of my arms I didn't want to let her go!

But that being said... the movie was awful and they needed to train that dog!
