I thought this was an excellent movie. I don't know why people dogged the end. When a movie can capture your emotions, you know you have a good one.

I def. see this winning an award of some sort. Matt Damon did a great job at directing.

It had scenes that captured my emotions. It also had a lot of superfluous moments that really added very little. I didnt much enjoy it personally

Yea, I kind of agree with this. It didn't cause me to dislike the movie as a whole, i just walked out the theater a tad underwhelmed

Didn't really show much range

Yeah, I really don't see how this movie is so well regarded, it's an 8.5 on IMDB but it's basically 15-20 minutes of emotionally powerful moments, and admittedly they are very good, oscar nomination worthy performances at the heights of the movie. But it's 2 hours 20 minutes and literally 2 hours of it is the minutae of daily life travelling from point A to point B trying to reinforce some basic things about Casey Affleck's character and motivation that we picked up on the first few times you illustrated it for us.

This would have made a great short film, it's boring as hell as a full length feature film.

That's basically how I feel. For as much buzz as it's gotten, I really wasn't impressed with the overal structure or the pacing. They had an outstanding 40-minute story, but the other 90 minutes really felt like a lot of wasted potential

I don't have patience for movies over 2 hours and find myself mentally editing them, but this movie kept me attentive throughout.

All of the acting was good, and the cinematography even on plain street scenes was beautiful. That may have been helped by the fact that I saw it at Robinson Film Center in a tiny theatre with a huge screen.

Jerry (guy in boat yard) is listed in credits as Brian A. Smith. IMDB has a few movie bit parts for him, but I swear I know him from a TV show. Anyone recall seeing him in a show?

It's hard to search him because a black actor named Brian Smith is popular and comes up.

Incredibly powerful film. If you haven't seen it and want to, prepare yourself. It will bring out emotions in you that you didn't think you had. Incredible performances and writing.

Arrival is still my best film of the year, but Manchester is fantastic.

saw it over the weekend and thought it was excellent

The film did a good job of not giving the audience that emotional climax that so many other movies do. However, there still are several powerful scenes.

I really thought it did a good job of showing what grief can do and our protagonist doesn't end up making this huge change at the end.

It drags a little in spots but not enough to lose my attention.

Exactly. I thought that was one of the movie's best qualities. In reality, there is not always a powerful conclusion to unthinkable tragedy. Sometimes life just goes on as best as it can considering the circumstances.

ETA: The scene towards the end of the movie between the guy and his ex wife basically showed this. Sometimes there's just no answer or conclusion to something so tragic. And also his comment "I can't beat this" explained it.

I put Manchester over Arrival but I adored both.

Don't miss this one guys. One of the most emotionally powerful films I've seen.
