Sorry if there’s another post but WTF did I just watch? I thought the trailer was promising but it went off the rails quick.

I'm watching it right now, and I am enjoying it so far.

It’s…different. For sure.

I have to admit (I was having the same conversation with a friend earlier today), I like some of Wan's quirkier movies like Dead Silence, and this one reminds me of that one.

Definitely a different feel than his slicker projects.

I’m not sure if he was intentionally trying to mix 80’s campy horror with serious tones, but he nailed it if he was.

I love horror movies but this one was all over the place. One minute I felt like I was watching Return of the Living Dead, complete with garbage overacting and sick rock music, and the next it felt like I was watching the Conjuring.

I didn’t like it.

Exactly how I felt. As soon as I thought I was figuring it out, it went out of control. And then the end…Idk. It was out of control. I know I repeated myself but that’s where I am. I’m still trying to digest what I watched and make sense of it. I just can’t.

Wan definitely tried to retreat from his Conjuring universe.

If you go in expecting that, you’ll be disappointed.

I liked the big reveal at the end…it was definitely worth it.

Was that the pixies melody in that one scene? Never really found that song to invoke images of horror. Watching now, and had no idea what to expect before, and halfway through still not sure what to expect.

Definitely. That being said I couldn't stop staring at her sister's arse in the movie.

It was played a few times, and yes it was definitely a variation of Pixies “Where is My Mind”

I gotta say that all the HBO Max 'exclusive' streaming movie content has been absolute shite. No Sudden Moves, The Little Things, this, all crap.

No Sudden Move is the only one of these 3 that was an hbo max exclusive movie, and it was awesome IMO.

Malignant and The Little Things are/were also theater releases.

I was watching and thinking to myself “is this a bad movie?” and then the last 30 minutes happened and I realized the movie is a tribute to campy schlock movies like the Stuart Gordon films (Re-Animator, From Beyond). When I realized that, it became apparent that the movie is just about having fun with the blood and guts.

So is this movie scary or just a gore fest?
