I honestly didnt know how popular it was around here. I dont think I've ever seen a thread about it. I wont count the votes until the end but I would imagine it has a good shot at beating The Wire. I hope it doesnt, but the way it has beaten everything else, it wouldnt surprise me.

It's not about popularity, though. The strength of Cheers lies in its universality, timelessness, and the overall "Let's escape from the stresses of the day," that many TV shows seek to hit, and it all does it extremely well. The has spoken well to people.
While the move to "visual novels," like The Wire and Breaking Bad is somewhat of a good one, they aren't necessarily escapes from the day to day that something like Cheers provides. Getting to know a group of people and spending some time with them is core to that kind of week to week interaction that drive a lot of television.
Cheers is close a perfect TV show when you take that into account. Even better than Seinfeld, because no one wants to be friends with those people.
