Lets talk about The Sixth Sense

SPOILERS
Let me preface this by saying this is the story I always wished I would have written.
The Prestige sets itself up as the whole movie being a magic trick. But I think The Sixth Sense is a better example. It shows you the scene of him being shot before you even know dead people are apart of the movie. You dont know to be cynical when he appears in the next scene. Then, all scenes with Bruce Willis in them start with him already being in them. Your brain fills in gaps that arent actually there. Ive always thought this was brilliant. But im watching it again, and i have some gripes.
1) One of the scenes where you fill in the gaps is where Cole walks in and Willis is sitting with his mother. Did Willis not attempt to talk to her? Was this because of his subconscious keeping him from finding out he was dead until it was time? Same with the fact that apparently he hasnt had a conversation with anyone in a year.
2)NITPICKING ALERT: Willis is wearing different clothes sometimes. How is this?
3)This is the big one. How does he even become aware of Cole? He had a notebook full of notes? Where did he even get those? Is this just another case of these dead people needing Cole and not knowing they are dead? Is it like a dream for them, in that major facts are missing but it seems normal to them and they dont question it?
