Eh , Die Hard could have just as well taken place during the Nakitomi company's anniversary party in August.

Not true, the building needed to be empty.

Die Hard is like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon, Eyes Wide Shut, or any number of movies that happen to be set during Christmas. It's not a Christmas movie (though I'd argue Gremlins is), but it is the punchline to the hackiest of internet jokes which pretty much signals that the joke-teller thinks he is a lot funnier than he actually is. He probably says dicks out for Harambe as well, because he is unable to come up with his own material. It's the airline food jokes of the internet.

I love the Gap! It's like going into my closet, but there's a man in there.
Whats that? You'll resold my clothes?
This is great!

The easiest way would be a sliding scale (0-15, 16-30, etc) with a ranking criteria based on certain characteristics. A chart would be quite difficult and remove the argument part completely. The problem with the sliding scale is that it will almost necessarily be partially subjective.

quote:

Set during Christmas time - 0-10 points

Remake of a classic Christmas story (i.e. Scrooged) - 0-10 points

Direct reference to Christmas - 2 points each (i.e. Christmas tree, family visiting, Christmas lights, presents, "Ho Ho Ho, Now I have a machine gun")

Christmas theme - 0-10 points (Does it revolve around family, redemption, love, etc?) - this is a bit of a wild card but like some things, you just know it when you see it.

Now, go ahead and debate this or try to find a scale that works.

Love Actually and The Family Stone are 2 of my absolute favorite Christmas movies of the past 15 years. Both are set during the Christmas season and the holiday itself plays a major role in the story.

I'm also a huge fan of movies that are set in NYC during the Christmas season. The Big Apple may be crowded and dirty, but there's something almost magical about it during the holidays, particularly when it snows.
