Al Pachino for scent of a woman. Talk about a lifetime achievement award.

Worse they screwed Denzel out of the award for Malcom X which lead to him getting it when he shouldn't have for Training Day and screwing Russel Crowe out of it for Beautiful Mind

Driving Miss Daisy beating Goodfellas was pretty bad as well.

Titanic was a historical epic and with groundbreaking technology and a great leading couple. Good Will Hunting, while good - was definitely not Oscar worthy

While entertaining, it was pretty much bloated Hollywood crap. And yeah, I have a bias against big budget over the top movies.

Life is Beautiful, hands down, and that a-hole who climbed over the chairs at the Oscars. Royally fricked Nick Nolte out of an award.

It was fiction with a historical background. The fictional story in the movie sucked balls.

Remembering to never take movie advice from this guy.

Sean Penn over Mickey Rourke. Rourke won every other best actor award but was snubbed.

Close second: Annie Hall beating Star Wars for Best Picture.

As much as I love Star Wars, I'm not really shocked considering no Science Fiction movie has ever won a Best Picture Oscar. Not one.

eta no comment about a jewish comedy winning in an industry dominated by jews.

This is odd considering your comment is in response to a poster also complaining about a Jewish Director (Spielberg) getting robbed. In addition to Private Ryan, a Holocaust movie (Life is Beautiful) lost that exact same year to a movie from a British Director, so that makes no sense.

Halle Berry. She literally made her nomination a race issue and dared the voters not to vote for her or be considered racist.

No she didn't.

I actually agreed with the Academy giving Penn the award. He became Harvey Milk in that movie. His portrayal was so accurate it was amazing. Rourke did a good job, but going up against someone who is accurately nailing the role of playing another person is hard to beat.

This.

Rourke did a great job, but Penn took the cake.
