In 2012, von Bargen made news for shooting himself in the head. In a harrowing 911 call, the actor told the operator that he shot himself "in the temple." Von Bargen added that he's diabetic and that doctors were "supposed to amputate a few toes," but that he didn't want to go to the hospital

Sad. My favorite supporting character on the show. His performance in the Festivus episode makes it one of my favorite episodes of the series.

how did you not hear about that? What was even more strange is there was never any update to the story.

He was really good as Kruger, no question.

He was also excellent as Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle, Sheriff Cooley in O Brother and Chief Grady in Super Troopers.

Particularly in Super Troopers, where he had to hold his own against the Broken Lizard guys AND Brian Cox.

He made a wonderful authority-figure bad guy - on par with JK Simmons, although without quite Simmons' range.

"Oh, no sir. Festivus is all too real. And I could prove it, if I had to."

"Yeah, you probably should."

I liked him as the villain in Lord of Illusions. Horror fans should check it out if you haven't already seen it.
