It has been crap. I don't even recognize the Jesus that Bill O'reilly is portraying, showing Jesus as just a good man with good words. No one in their right mind would follow him.

They should make an All Star Jesus version.

Like, where Jesus is hardcore and a little crazy.
And he kidnaps Peter and he's like "Who are you?!"
And Jesus goes "What are you, retarded? I'm the Goddamn Savior!"

I'm not watching it. But in the oldest gospel accounts i.e. the passages most likely historically accurate, that's pretty much what he is.

The acting hasn't been the greatest but at least they put together a cast of Middle Eastern people instead of just White's from England and the U.S.

I've always been amazed at how Jesus and his followers are always white in the movies.

The early Christians wouldn't recognize the Jesus that the Catholic Church portrayed three hundred years later either. It seems to be a theme.

So the real Jesus was more quiet/shy instead of a vocal leader that liked to preach?

That's the difference I see in other Jesus films vs. this one.

The gospels don't portray a quiet shy jesus. Humble yes bUT not shy. He was not formally educated yet challenged the religious leaders of his day. He was not afraid to say things that he knew would eventually get him killed.

Because they weren't white.

OK. I was just wondering why that amazed you. The "diversity" trend is a relatively new concept, historically speaking. Mandating that ethnic characters be portrayed by actors that are are ethnically similar is an even newer concept. It would stand to reason that the majority of historical portrayals of the character would not fit the mold, so to speak.

I find the concept even more interesting because we haven't quite gotten to the point where we demand a definitive ethnic match (e.g., we're OK with an actor of one Asian culture portraying a character of another Asian culture, so long as they're Asian). The same holds for this show. I haven't examined the entire cast, but I doubt they are all ethnically the same as Jesus would have been, but they're probably generally most of Middle Eastern descent, and that's close enough, I guess.

It's not that complicated. No one cares about exact ethnicities, just give us someone with a similar skin color

Which is a little odd, right? It's very much as "racist" in its own way as having a white person play a non-white person.

How would the early Christians have recognized him, pray tell?

Well there's a big difference between an Arab from the region of Iraq, Jordan, Israel and a white guy from England or California.

I didn't think it was terrible, but it was pretty meh.

My favorite Jesus/Passion movie is still Jesus Christ Superstar. Though I've never watched ThePassion of The Christ.
