I thought he sounded southern, its so much better than that stupid Georgia draw they always try to pass off.

I haven't been able to watch any movie/TV show with him doing a cringeworthy accent since Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Maybe I'm just better at it.
Now Charlize Theron in Bagger Vance. THAT's a cringy GA accent.

Find an actor that is actually from the South to play roles with an accent please.
They're called "actors."

shite, a north ga accent is different from a Macon accent is different from a south ga accent is different from a Savannah accent is different from the lack of accent of most Metro Atlanta folks
He doesn't sound bad for a jersey guy and not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be

Are you a elementary school speech teacher?

I actually don't mind the accent, I think it enhances his character. I feel like he lays it on more when he is BS'ing somebody.

Hollywood still thinks most southerners talk like they're in gone with the wind. Still love the show though.

You notice how it goes in and out? When is talking to just Claire he often doesn't have it? His fake southern accent is one of the smartest parts of the show. He pays the good ole boy for the people
I thought this was a no-brainer.
Any time he's speaking on the campaign trail he's got that cheesy good ole boy accent. When he's in private with his wife he drops it.

I'm from Gaffney, that Old South accent is definitely prevalent among older SCers... Even more so in the small towns.
Live in Inman. Spent some time in Gaffney for work.

It's almost ruining the show for me. I mean come on.
I agree 100%. I quit watching the show because it annoyed me so bad.

I think the accent is spot on for a SC politician that likes cock.
But I quit watching the show after season 2.

Not many "old Atlanta" accents left except for maybe a few older Buckhead socialites, ala Julia Sugerbaker.
But yeah, SC has the accent range GA does, from upstate, Columbia, Charleston, Gulla, etc. Just like Georgia has Atlanta, North Georgia, Athens, Macon, South Georgia, Savannah accents.

While actors do sometimes do bad accents, there aren't the hard rules to them that you claim either.

No, but I know what the accent is supposed to sound like. His vowels like "I" aren't pronounced correctly and elongated, he enunciates way too much and he misses quite a few r's that are supposed to be dropped. And he pronounces his g's at the end of ing words.
Well...he is you know, educated and all. I know you're an aggie and wouldn't know much about that, but him being an educated man and the president probably has something to do with him actually speaking so people can understand him.

Dang near every character on this show is bi-sexual. It's weird.

so is Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and LBJ, all presidents who drew out their vowels and did not pronounce g's at the end of words. Nice try, tho.
