Leo tries way to hard in that movie.
Every scene with him in it o just kind of felt bad for him. It's like he was just begging for an award and to be taken seriously, but he's always just Leo. You can tell he pours himself into his roles, but he never really gets lost in them.
Hardy, on the other hand, was fantastic.

Leo really swung for the fences, I agree.
Still a good movie

Leo tries too hard in most movies. GOAT at overacting.

I enjoyed the hell out it.
I love those kids of epic movies i.e. Dances With Wolves.
Swing for the fences is a good way to put it.

Agree on both.

Revenant was one of those movies I'm glad I saw in theatres. Opening scene has a Saving Private Ryan beach landing vibe

I saw it in theaters. I thought that it was one of those movies that I should go out of my way to catch in theaters.
My impression of it was just that they went too over the top with the harshness of all the stuff that happens to Leo's character to the point that it becomes too much the point of the movie. It was almost like a gore porn thing going on. I actually chuckled a little to myself by the time they got to the point where he went over the cliff on the horse.
Still it did some things really right. The scenery and shots and all that were pretty awesome. I'm probably being more critical of it than I would be of some lesser movies because I wanted to expect more out of it.
EDIT: Oh, yes, down vote me because you can't actually engage in discussion about a movie on the movie board.

Leo and Hardy were both good. The movie was forgettable for me though. Not something I ever feel like rewatching.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s real blood is in ‘Django Unchained’ scene
Leonardo DiCaprio cut his hand while the cameras were rolling on the set of "Django Unchained" and kept moving through the scene, never breaking character. His real-life bloodied hand made it into the final version of the film, The Weinstein Company has confirmed with Yahoo! Movies.
It is this type of dedication that helped earn the 38-year-old actor a Golden Globe nomination and Oscar buzz for playing an evil slave plantation owner.
SPOILER ALERT: DiCaprio's hand injury happened during one of the movie's most climactic scenes -- as Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) confronts Django (Jamie Foxx) and Dr. Shultz (Christoph Waltz). Candie has learned the pair have been pulling an elaborate scam on him in order to retrieve Django's wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), a slave on his vast Mississippi plantation."

Whatever.

I love tom hardy but thought his performance in this was way overrated

Calvin Candee was my fav Leo performance.

The Revenant was one of the films where I just couldn't get behind the main character's motivations. I actually thought Hardy had a legit reason to do what he did considering the situation.

I love Tom Hardy and I think he's a lot of fun to watch but I think he's very overrated as an actor. A lot of his movies involves him looking very stern and mumbling.

I like Leo and pretty much every film he does, but there was a quote in the Feud miniseries where Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are arguing about talent, Joan said something to the effect of "they don't reward your talent, they reward you because they see how hard you sweat", perfectly sums up Leo especially in The Revenant.

This will be one of my favorite movie experiences ever. During the bear attack scene, some dude ran out the theater holding his stomach, comes back and tells his wife he puked.

I feel the same way. I could barely understand anything he said.

Tom Hardy is a good actor, not great. But, he has tons of screen presence and conveys emotion really well.
