First time watching it. Started this thread because I would like to discuss the show, there is a lot to talk about. Feel free to chime in with anything.

Overall I liked the show. Where can I watch Season 10?

I don't get why people say the quality declined in Seasons 8/9. I thought it held up well. I liked the Doggett Character. Mulder's abscense in those last 2 seasons really only affected the way the monster of the week episodes in the way they were approached, but not the alien arc, which was fine. The MOTW episodes were different minus Mulder.

I think Season 6 was my favorite. Lots of great monster episodes in that season. But my favorite overall episode was X-COPS. That was a great change of pace episode.

At first I was all about the alien arc episodes, but the Monster of the Week episodes grew on me and were my preferred style of episodes.

Wish X's character lasted longer. Wish the Lone Gunmen were used more, and wish they weren't killed off. I thought that was silly.

I missed the illuminati. I hate how they got killed off, I know the Smoking Man lasted the whole series, but the illuminati were great.

Here are my favorite Monster of the Week episodes(No Order)

Ice - Season 1
Beyond the Sea - Season 1
Irresistable/Orison - Season 1/7
Die Hand Die Verlezt - Season 2
Pusher - Season 2
Jose Chung's From Outer Space - Season 3
Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man - Season 4
Never Again - Season 4
Unusual Suspects/Three of a Kind - Season 5/7
Bad Blood - Season 5
Drive - Season 6
Dreamland - Season 6
How the Ghosts Stole Christmas - Season 6
Arcadia - Season 6
The Goldberg Variation - Season 6
Hollywood AD - Season 7
XCOPS - Season 7
Redrum - Season 8
Medusa - Season 8
Lord of the Flies - Season 9
John Doe - Season 9

I think my 5 favorite are Beyond the Sea, Jose Chung, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, Arcadia, and XCOPS.

Wish there were more Lone Gunmen centered episodes. The 2 episodes dedicated to them were great. I know they had a spinoff series but why cancel so soon?

There were some episodes that weren't my favorite, but I liked anyway because of how weird they were. Specifically the Season 4 episode "Home" with the mutant family in Pennsylvania. That one fricked with my mind.

Here are my top 10 stand alone non-recurring characters:

1. Derwood Spinks (Season 7/Hungry)
2. Jared Chirp (Season 7/Signs and Wonders)
3. Joe Goodensnake (Season 1/Shapes)
4. Charlie Holvey (Season 2/The Calussari)
5. Lisa Underwood(Season 8/Invocation)
6. Mr. Hsin(Season 3/Hell Money)
7. Blaine Faulkner(Season 3/Jose Chung's From Outer Space)
8. Izzy Berkowitz(Season 5/Post Modern Prometheus)
9. Soledad Buente(Season 4/El Mundo Gira)
10. Sheila Fontaine(Season 6/The Rain King)

Derwood Spinks probably the most bad arse character who made an appearance in the series.

Welcome to the party, I own them all on DVD. Never too late to watch a great show, the monster of the week episodes were the best, the conspiracy crap not so much.

The Unnatural is my favorite standalone non MOTW episode. Love the negro league player/alien plot.

I lose it when Mulder finds the body in the field.

Home should be on any top list.

That episode is disturbing today. Back then it was monumentally disturbing.

I ran through the show about two months ago and will probably never forget this episode.

Best part of the series was the MOTW. Didn't care for the story arc that much.

I've been watching this for the first time and have made it several seasons in. I want to know what happens during the alien story arc, but I have little desire to watch those episodes. The motw episodes are so much better.

The MOTW episodes stand up much better.

At the time, we didn't know that the alien storyline was going to branch out into infinite red herrings and become impossible to resolve with any sense of satisfaction.

Also, at that time, the whole alien, government conspiracy theme was fresh and exciting for a TV show to delve into. Since that time, thanks to the internet and cable channels that basically focus all of their time on it, the subject of aliens and government conspiracies has been neaten to death.
