and in the 14 episodes i saw there is an amazing season of television in there, but as 3 seasons of a show? it was good-entertaining at its height

i don't get the love for this show. all the episodes and storylines seem SUPER rushed. this is just a show of convenience that destroys the drama. luther is brilliant and in his brilliance he'll magically solve the mystery without really bringing us along to see what's going on. tension builds up to just knowing he's smart and boom, it's over. OR, luther gets accused of doing bad stuff and killing people...to the point where police are legit investigating him. then voila, alice ex machina to save the day...TWICE

even the character issues/drama are rushed. oh luther falls in love with mary in like half an episode. oh luther becomes a father to the fat teenager and then lets her live at his place over the course of maybe one episode (oh yeah and she kills a guy and they cover it up and pin it on a gangster without much effort and within an episode's worth of time)

there is a lot of potential and many potentially great angles, but the execution is total shite. rush job every timme

It got old with the continuing Lets Get Luther plot.

I couldn't even finish season 3. It was just too damn over the top with the internal affairs guy breaking laws to get Luther and the chick helping him.

So she was against Luther because he broke the rules so she joins up with a crooked internal affairs guy and helps him break laws to get Luther.

It got old for me and I couldn't finish it.

It's a great show but it was hurt by the short seasons. That's the downside of shows on the BBC.

Luther and Alice( ) are what carry the show and they make up for some of the short comings.

It's a quick entertaining watch that'll keep you guessing. I do agree it's not a perfect show.

I get how you could say that about season 3 and maybe 2. But season 1 is fantastic

ETA: RIP Justin

EETTAA: Looks like they aren't finished yet. There will be a 2 episode special on BBC this fall

I totally enjoyed season 1. Season 2 was good enough but flawed and season 3 just wasn't very good.

Season one was great.

Season two was really good, but the porn girl subplot was bad.

Season three was odd. I can't say much more.

if i'm not mistaken, BBC shows generally last much shorter than American run shows, right? and their series are also shorter generally? so it makes sense that the show would seem "rushed" compared to other american series. i think it's a legit complaint, but that's the way they do their shows. i love luther, though, and i never found much of it to be rushed or forced, except perhaps a few episodes in the 3rd series.

yes each series is typically 6 eps

used to piss me off when buying red dwarf seasons on DVD b/c the cost:episode was out of whack

they could have pulled back on some of the serials to build a "bigger" plot. they could have also used alice better than just rehashing the same "swoop in to save the day when the coppers come after luther" move

Erin Gray is literally the turning point of that show. The second she is introduced the entire show turns into a shite show

Boom. She sucks and like a vampire, she sucks the life out of the show.
