I agree. I appreciated the acting and the way it was shot, but I thought the movie as a whole sucked.

I still don't know if he had powers or was just imagining it.

Edward Norton killed it though.

I hated that fricking thing. Like jerking off without busting a nut.

I don't really mind if a movie has a vague/unanswered ending if it turned out to be a good watch. Like when a comedian asks a funny rhetorical question, sometimes it's best to end the joke by letting the audience answer it themselves. That's kind of how I feel about Birdman. Some people will think of the ending one way and assume most other people agree with their take, others will see it differently. I thought it was a good movie, everything about it was taut and urgent in an way that appealed to me- from the photography to the acting and dialogue.

Good acting and different. But not especially enjoyable to watch.

The only good part of this is Ed norton.
The fact that it was nominated for so many awards makes me think all the awards are irrelevant

Judging by your complex and thought-provoking breakdown of the themes, visuals, and character motivations, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the movie probably wasn't meant for your type of audience.

He was imagining his powers until he shot off his nose. It was the coup de grâce of his actor and mortal self.

It is total crap that Birdman won Oscars and "Nightcrawler" got snubbed. Nightcrawler was such a better movie.

I liked Birdman better than Nightcrawler.

Bought it on a whim because I couldn't find Whiplash to rent. Terrible decision. I really wanted to like it. It was one of those films where you just knew it was going to get better and it never did. I thought the direction and cinematography were great, but the acting never compelled me because of the script.

I enjoyed it. I went into the movie knowing nothing about it, so after 15-20 minutes I had to pause to see how long the opening uninterrupted take went. Finding out the gimmick didn't ruin it for me at all. That said, the movie was about as confusing to me as Mulholland Drive, so I looked up some theories. Best one:

****Spoilers****

The majority of the movie is a dream. Riggan attempts suicide and gets fricked up by jellyfish, barely managing to get ashore before he falls into a hallucinogenic dream. He wakes up for a few seconds and sees the dead jellyfish in front of him, then falls back to his dream state.

You're probably one of those backwards ruffians who thinks movies should be entertaining
