Great show. Complex plot, complex characters, great final season.
I never could get into Star Trek because everything turned out fine in the end and it was overall just corny to me.
This show is so different. I loved it.

I think you misunderstand one of the prime points of Star Trek. The crew(s) are showing what mankind is capable of once petty attributes of he human condition (greed, hate, selfishness, etc) are put aside. In that regard, you can really treat Star Trek as moral fables to a certain degree. Hence why it would fail as a gritty show.

Star Trek is definitely boring

That's actually why I enjoyed DS9 so much. At least the latter half. The show breaks out into a full blown war.
Still the only time I've seen a Star Trek show or movie put the fleet in Star Fleet.

Fact, bears eat beets. Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

The original or the newer one?

great final season.
i thought it got away from them in the end although the final battle sequence at the cylon base at the black hole was incredible
BSG was groundbreaking "real" sci-fi...that and firefly are my all time favorites

THen you need to watched DS9, form the same producers as Battlestar starting from Season 3-7. ANd it doesn't pussy foot around, it really asked the hard question while keeping the nature for Star Trek.
Most importantly, we finally get to see these Superpower on screen duking it out and on the ground. It not one Borg cube vs 40 ships. It's thousands against thousands.
DS9 , give it a shot.

You've convinced me, BSG is one of my all time favorites and I am looking for a show right now. Is DS9 on Netflix?

Watched the original as a kid but remembered it as hokey so when I actually stumbled across the new BSG 2nd episode "Water" I decided to watch for a few minutes to see if it was just as hokey.
To this day, I can't articulate how much I loved this series.
helped too.

Yep, I would suggest you start with Season 4, that's when the action take place and really when it REALLY get amp the freak up.
The Space battle was done really well. The question of mortality of gods, and false gods, and faith were all touch in there.
Even PTSD or pushing soldiers to hard. How far would a uptonian society go to protect iself?
It some major plots in season 3 but it sorta of dragon since Ronald was jsut starting to get more traction. But 4-7 is like Battle Star season 1-5 interconnected.

Plus it deals with traitors, sabotage, and clandestine, CIA-type agencies.

My only beef with the series is they went one scene too long. Ending in modern day New York and having some hokey social commentary made it feel like reading the end of some college students short story.

Too bad that's literally impossible.

I like both takes on Science Fiction, or heck, on storytelling in general.
I enjoy the heck out of Star Trek. Though the fact that most iterations of it were before the era of serial storytelling means it can be hit and miss. When it was well done it was good watching. And obviously a heck of a lot of people were (and are) very affected by it and it definitely captured the popular imagination.
BSG was good. It was done well. Though they kind of seemed to lose themselves for awhile with things like the time jump and tough love stuff, I think they came back pretty strong towards the end (besides, fat Apollo was kind of hilarious). If I remember right, the final episode did not go over very well but I liked it fine.
Sentrius:
A lot of the shite in science fiction is impossible. Just depends on how much of a "gritty" veneer you want on your impossible escapist entertainment. If one wants ultimate realism, there are plenty of places on earth and even in the U.S. where one can spend a bit of time. (Though it would be just a tad dangerous to do so in person).

Funny enough, I'm in the middle of a watch of this right now. Right at the beginning of Season 3.
I never watched it straight through, but I did watch it with my dad when I could (much like TNG).
